Magnesium Wheels

I don’t know. BUT I am a fan of magnesium forged wheels. Ultra lightweight and all the benefits of super light rotational weight. The onkly vendors I know of are BBS Germany $20,000+ per set , Litespeed racing and certain other companies.
GM C8 carbon fiber wheels are state of the art and a serious KUDOS to Tadge and his team for “going all -in “ for carbon fiber wheels for ultimate performance. Ferrari, Ford GT , Ford GT350 and C8 Z06 are the only OEMs that went it and did it.
However, a good USA based manufacturer of ultra light forged all aluminum wheels gets the weight down comparable to magnesium. I am looking for take -off carbon fiber C8 wheels .

Thanks Joefab. I am definitely curious to know which aluminum wheel manufacturer offers wheels similar in weight to magnesium. I definitely want weight saving wheels but do not want carbon fiber.

I tested the original CF wheels for the manufacturer at Joliet's Autobahn and let Johnnie O, Andy Pilgrim, and John Hennessee drive a few laps with them. They actually make the car feel like the engine is missing. Never had any issues with them. They wanted our car at Milford's track, but I was not willing to loan them the car. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-magazine.html

I think the magnesium wheels will be a few pounds heavier, maybe 3 to 4 pounds. But they are widely used in F1, Le Mans, all of the lower formulas, and many sports racers/prototypes. They are widely used because they are reliable, robust and made of the strongest structural metal. I have used them for years on my formula race cars and they are fantastic. They never fail unless you hit something hard like a wall or car, unlike some of the stories you hear about CF wheels. I have never had or heard of a magnesium wheel failing from hitting curbing no matter how hard hard on a race track (where as I have bent a steering track rod hitting the curbing). Also. I have had slightly bent magnesium wheel repaired.

If you go 19" forged aluminum, the wheels are lighter and so are the tires.

Can you get 19 inch magnesium wheels that fit the C8 or Z06? I looked at availability for the 20/21 wheels and dont see anything other than centerlock wheels for the GT2 RS/GT3 Porsches. But I was mainly looking at OZ wheels.

I've never looked into magnesium, but 19" magnesium would be the ultimate for a C8Z. 18" for the Z51.

I'm just surprised there is not many conversions on magnesium wheels, especially when there have been bad experiences with damaged CF wheels when changing tires.
