Default Why the ZR1 LT7 "sounds different" than the LT6!

With AFM (cylinder deactivation) on the LT7, the way the motor will accomplish this is with a hydraulic follower (likely identical to the Blackwing LTA 4.2L TT DOHC motor) which is unlike the current LT6 solid shimmed rocker/follower! Here's a video that helps understand AFM with DOHC https://videos.eaton.com/detail/vide...autoStart=true

What does this mean? The current LTA Eaton supplied AFM followers have a 7200 RPM limit (LTA motor 6500 RPM)! So unless they come up with a significantly higher RPM design, the LT7 will be very RPM limited compared to the LT6 and NEVER scream the same at super high RPM (as evidenced by the 'Ring videos!)!

Something tells me that GM has stretched Eaton's Engineering a bit, but maybe not because it's hard to imagine the LT7 with a ~6500 RPM redline but maybe because it makes so much frickin torque under boost, you just don't need the RPM!

And of course the stupid $64,000 question....why in the world does the LT7 even NEED AFM...seriously!!!! It's not a frickin economy car....

The real question for me is why does the LT7 has AFM when the LT6 doesn’t? Makes me wonder more if it’s really the 5.5 or not. An gives more credibility to the narrative of it being the 6.2

So where/when did we get confirmation the ZR1 will have AFM?

Did I miss details of the LT7 getting released?

There’s no confirmation. But I do remember GMA saying back in the summer that LT7 would feature AFM.

Thanks!

Everyone I know that has a truck with AFM doesn't like it. Is it a trick to improve fuel mileage?

Yes. And Stingray’s 6.2 and past Corvettes have had it. Except for the C8 Z06’s 5.5 flat plane, that’s why I feel there’s a good chance that C8 ZR1 isn’t just the 5.5 with turbos. There’s definitely more to it. Whether it’s a cross plane version of it, or a different engine all together.

Not to be negative but you sound like the My Pillow guy when he said he would provide irrefutable proof the election was stolen during his seminar at the Sturgis Bike Week. LOL!!!

My Ram Rebel shuts down to 4 cylinders at low throttle and it SUCKSSSSSSS. There is a vibration and hesitation when giving it gas and it transitions back to V8 mode. Worst "tech" ever.

Agreed. My 392 Rubi has it, not a fan.
