Default Z06 exhaust sound and hearing issues

The car with the windows up inside is close to 110 dB in Z mode. I’m already starting to get ringing of the ears and issues with hearing. What are you guys doing about the insanely loud car?

The entire cabin in my car is lined with 80 mil sound deadening material and the app was reading in the 90 dBs for a good portion of the trip. On more asphalt roads it went down to mid 80s, but the avg for the entire trip was 87 dB.

The new Z, with the 20/21 run flats, could be up there.
We went thru this before. For every 3dB, that is a doubling of the sound. so 20 dB is between 2^6th and 2^7th, so 110 dB is closer to 128 times louder than 64 times louder than 90 dB

Put it in Tour Mode or wear ear plugs.

I have tinnitus and am sensitive from a hearing perspective. I don’t have much seat time in the car yet, but the car is pretty quiet in stealth mode. Sounds like you need to adjust your Z mode settings for the exhaust.

Just run the car in "My Mode". You can adjust (almost) all of the settings but more importantly in your case you can have the exhaust run in "Stealth" Mode all the way up to "Track Mode". Also if you run in "My Mode" when you turn the car off it will start back up in that mode instead of "Tour" which is the default mode.

I have not measured the inside sound volume with a meter, but having dealt with sound regulations and sound meters over the years, I don't believe the sound level inside the car with the windows up in any of the modes, including Track is really even close to 110 dB. I had a NASCAR car thrown out of an open test day because it measured 106dB on a sound meter when they measured it from 10' away between 2 concrete walls. My Z06 does not come close to that, outside or inside the car. Perhaps if I measured it 3' from directly behind the open exhaust it MIGHT get to that level.

As indicated above, itf the sound level bothers you, run it in Stealth mode.

Inside the car in My Mode with the exhaust on loudest setting I recorded 97.9db max stock.

With the Soul Performance cats I recorded 100.3db

Like others said, you don’t have to run the car in the loudest setting all the time

If you already have tinnitus and hearing issues, earplugs are the only way to go. I have custom molded silicone ones. They cost about $100, and have lasted over ten years of near daily use. You can still hear perfectly fine with them. It just drops everything down about 20 db. Save your ears!

Check out this measurement video I made. The main image and sound are from the PDR. The P-I-P is the Decibel X app running on my iPhone inside the cabin. This is a smooth asphalt road so road noise is minimal.
The mode icon is in the lower right corner. It has a gear icon when in Z-mode which I had programmed to the loudest exhaust setting. The loudest it got was ~86 dB at 7,000 RPM around 1:18 minutes.

86 decibel sounds more accurate, whereas 110 is approaching the threshold of physical pain induced by sound (120). Chevy makes the car nice and comfy in every other aspect for daily duty and cruises to Country Kitchen Buffet, but decided to go that hard with the exhaust? Doesn’t add up.
