Dealer thinks 1 to 2 years before I can order.
New to the Z06 thing. I asked the dealer that I bought a 2022 Stingray from about putting down a deposit on a ZO6 at MSRP. He said it might be 1 or even 2 years before I can place an order. 5 people ahead of me. So in the grand scheme of things is this a normal, if there is such a thing when ordering a car these days, or is waiting 1 to 2 years bad? Maybe it is great, heck I have no idea. What say you ?

1 to 2 years seems optimistic, but you never know with small dealers, you could hit the lottery. But also, small dealers seem more likely to surprise you with a big market adjustment to the price even after you waited all those years, so there's that.
Maybe the best strategy is to get on the list at big dealers and wait for one of them to come through. But if you are wanting one in a couple years, then you will likely have to pay over MSRP. How much you have to pay over MSRP depends on how many GM is able to crank out. If they solve all their problems and crank out tons of them, then maybe you only have to pay 5 to 15 over msrp in 2 years. If they continue to crank out as many as they did this year, i.e. not many, then maybe you have to pay 30 or 50k over msrp in a couple years. The numbers are kind of wild *** guesses but they are my best guesses.

1-2 years. Highly improbable.

surely you can just refuse the car and take your deposit back if the dealer tries to slap some ADM on the car once they have it on the ground...

Knowing how many yearly stingray allocations your dealer gets per year would be helpful in extrapolating your potential wait time

It depends on the dealer. Only way to really guess at something like this is to look at how many Stingrays they sell. If they are one of the many dealers who just sell a few stingrays per year, yeah the wait is going to be long. But if they sell like 30+ you may get lucky.

2020 C6 of the Year Winner - Modified
Personally, about 6 months waiting for an order is my limit. If it's going to take longer than that, I move on to something else. At this point in life I'm not fixated on any one car to need to wait years for it. If that's an acceptable wait for you, put down your deposit. You're probably going to receive a car a heck of a lot sooner than these guys sitting on lists at the big 3 dealers.

IF a CAR DEALER says it, it MUST BE TRUE.
Since ancient times the car dealer has been a paragon of information and virtue, as well as the final trust for many banks and financial institutions. Few civilizations failed to recognize the unimpeachable morality of car dealers (the Carthaginians of course are famous for their lack of trust prior to the Punic Wars) and many legal systems are based on the lessons Car dealers have imparted over the centuries.
I would write him a check.
Or did I completely miss the point of the OP and not get that the dealer will actually be thinking for 1 to 2 years before he allows you to order?

If you are this late to the game, get on as many dealer lists as you can, you may get lucky, and if you do not, at least you tried.
I havwe no research, but based on numerous comments in here, smaller dealers with a very low allocation tend to add ADM due to very low opportunity--it's called capitalism.

Well, if I remember and If I get a Z I will try and remember to post if I got it at MSRP. Seriously I have dealt with this owner for years and all his Stingrays he sold at MSRP and when I asked him about the Z they are at MSRP. And no I will not tell you who he is. Small town dealer who cares about his family rep in the car business. He is about to age out and I see his son working in sales and will be taking over Dad said.

I looked on C8Tracker and saw the dealer did 3 Stingrays, I am assuming 3 for the 2023 year. It is only April. Maybe the dealer is thinking of being issued at least 1 or 2 more ZO6 this year, along with the 1 he has already received. So if he gets between 2-3 cars per year, I can see why he is saying I maybe can order a car in 2 years. Car would be be delivered in the 3rd year and the 5 people in front of me are taken care of also. Maybe the knows some of the 5 in front of me are just maybe people. Hey, he is a salesman. You don't make sales saying it will be 10 years before you can order a car. lol.

If I were you, I would make a channel on youtube and scream into the camera and talk a lot without actually saying much with your voice cracking all while trying to be as annoying as possible. If you do that well, GM will send you a car next week.

If you were late to the game, you either got on a big 3 list way too late, you pay these ridiculous ADM’s, or you hope to get lucky with the right dealer and a bit of patience. In this current market, while I’m sure it’s not impossible, but improbable is definitely not an exaggeration when talking MSRP. Better hope they really start pumping them out over the next few years… count me as skeptical.
