“Amazing car, but styling could be improved” is a common theme among the major magazine reviews (C/D, R/T, M/T) of the Z06 with the Z07 package. My sense is the styling component of these reviews would be much more favorable if they were evaluating a base car, in a widely liked color, without any extra aero, and with either a body color top or all-black top (i.e., top and nacelles). I love the Z07 from a performance standpoint, but feel like the front splitter/dive planes and rear wing detract from the core design, which, if not truly elegant, possesses clean lines from all viewing angles and features attractive detail in the front and rear fascias. I’m wondering whether I’m in the minority here in preferring the base car over the Z07 from an aesthetic standpoint — what do you guys think?
For reference this is how I spec’d my build (which happens next week).
Base car 1000%. I think the hot setup is the base car with the carbon wheels and carbon brakes. I would even spec the black mirrors and low spoiler to hide it as much as possible. The Z07 is at home on a track but you look a bit of a **** down at the shops. Kind of like the high-winged GT3 vs the GT3 Touring.
I think the proportions will always be comprised to fit golf clubs in the trunk and parts of the design language are conflicting, whether to make it more aggro looking or just constraints of a mass produced car. It’s a good looking car but it’s not a timeless beauty.
I debated this point as well. My biggest issue with the Z07 to be honest are the front canards. Yes of course they are functional but they look too much like someone stuck on as an afterthought. The Z07 wing I like...but not from every angle. All of that said I prefer the look of the base car, but if I was a hard core track enthusiast then the Z07 makes the most amount of practice sense (in that application).
I have likes and dislikes about all of the different options. None of them stand out as looking "the best" to me.

If I end up with a no aero car I'd probably wrap the bottom of that front lip black until I pick up a splitter.

Concur on the canards — probably my least favorite aesthetic element of the Z07.

I’ve had the same thought about the front lip adding bulk (in some pics, in some colors). I ordered mine with a body color lip, and if it looks off in person, I’ll likely do what you suggest or perhaps wrap just the lower half or third of the lip. Good news is it’d provide extra protection.

Which one looks best is a personal thing. To me the base car looks much better. The wing and the canards look a bit like a design afterthought. They don’t flow with the car.
It’s also occurred to me that those items look a lot like something the young kids would add to their Subaru or Honda, and maybe that’s what GM was shooting for. Make them attractive to the new generation of car guys. 🤷♂️
Im in agreement here. IMO the wing is too much in your face muscle. Additionally, my wife said when she drives it (you know i will hit that things with packages and bang it up ; True
The canards look like something some kid will look at and use as a jumping off point.
Add me to the list of people who do not like the canards.
I understand they are needed to offset the wing but it is ugly.
I do like the wing I will be looking to the after market for something better for the front end and upgrade the smaller factory wing.
I prefer the base, myself. I think the Z07 aero can look quite nice in some pictures, but it can also look rather extra in other pictures. If the front cannards were a bit less "in your face", and if the wing looked better, then I'd lean toward the Z07.
