As usual, MT doesn't choose one over the other. Performance test wise, they were pretty much neck and neck with no significant difference between the two. Maybe we'll get to see these two battle it out at MT's Best Drivers Car.

Ummm who is writing for them and more importantly who is fact checking? They misquoted the engine HP not once but twice and even missed the RPM Redline number?

... and they avoided the price comparison. Regardless, it is a very positive review of the Z06. For their performance tests I wonder if they set the tire pressures cold at 24PSI like the OM says, and like C&D learned AFTER they did their tests. Maybe that accounts for the 0.2 slower than Chevy 0-60 number and why it went thru the traps 3 MPH slower than the C&D car. They didn't mention if it was a 1LZ, 2LZ or 3LZ car vs C&D 3LZ.
At least they know the LT6 has 670HP, or 640 HP, or 650HP. Yes, it must be somewhere over 600, accurate enough for journalism, I guess.

Would be happy to have either and in line for a Z06 like many here. I tend to think from what I've heard/read that the GT3 is likely slightly better to drive on the track and the Z06 probably a better driving car overall. Although I do track days, I wouldn't want a car that was so strong there that it wasn't as enjoyable as it could be on the street. The limits of these cars is so insanely high as it is.
Looking forward to a full track comparison test for curiosity's sake, but again, you can't go wrong with either.

I don't think they've driven them together, at the same track at the same time. They're comparing numbers and notes from a prior test ot he GT3 to their most recent drive in a Z06. They really shouldn't pick a winner until they can drive them back to back.

I owned a GT3RS and for the street, significantly less enjoyable than the Z06 I traded in. The car is a race car, not a street car. I is noisy, and has no real sound out the exhaust until high rpms (seldom realized on the street). Unless you live on a race track it is not a great car. I was very disappointed and regretted leaving my Z06 behind.

They list 3686 as curb weight, but then say you can take 40lbs off with CF wheels. The car they took pics of had CF wheels, so which is it MT?
21.9 in Figure 8 is insanely fast! That ties the fastest stuff they've tested! https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/motortrend-figure-8

Yes shoddy editing. We need a same day head to head track comparison. I'm sure its coming.

They got 2.6 out of a non-Z07 and 131 trap speed HTC, then 2.8 and 128 out of the Z07?

Just as I expected: GM made the Z06 into a street version of a race car which required extra weight for creature comforts and interior noise reduction. The market the Z06 is being sold to would compain loudly if it were a single focus race car stripped down to its bare bones which would be super unconfortable.
So this race car is now a street car that is faster than this street car:

..and then they take the C8Z street car and take another 2 years to turn it into the GT3 version race car that is faster than the street car but slower than the race car. At least it is all clear now.

Motor Trend is the car magazine for people that still read their old "Highlights for kids" magazines they stole from the dentist office.
Ah, Motor Trend...the guys that brought us THIS render of the C7, a year plus AFTER Jalopnik got the C7 about 90% correct. And this "render" was 4 months before the official reveal.
And we can't forget their breathless announcement that GM had seriously underrated the LT2 and on their dyno it was approaching 600HP.
Oops
