Default ZR1 any ideas when news on this car will start to leak out?

Since the Z06 is a great car but hey 2 years+ of orders are on the table when will they start to leak out some tidbits on the ZR1? The war against gasoline engines has begun and looks like electric will win so a car like this has a shelf life. Is anyone wondering why the Z06 tour is out i mean most dealers are not even taking orders are they just ginning things up for market value pricing?

As always thanks for your opinions.

No one knows that yet. I have always had the feeling that the e-ray and the zr1 will be the same car, but that's just a thought that I've had.

Still, I would think an announcement is a few years away yet.

At least three years from 2023....perhaps early 2026 for an announcement....

I do not believe that the C8 will be replaced by a C9 for some time unless there is a change in laws and regulations.

I think the base model needs to finish running it's course. The Z06 will take 2-3 years to meet the status of the base today (with regards to running it's course).
My assumptions - they are directing all the attention to the prototypes of the E-ray at THIS time and we will see it in 2 years from today.
I would imagine there is a different team working on the twin turbos for the ZR1 and likely have prototypes in the stages just prior to working examples or in hand and developing.
The rollout of the C8 is a bit different in today's climate. Not model year... Actual calendar year timeline

Base 2020-2022
Z06 2022-2024
E-Ray 2024 -2025
ZR1 2025-2027
Zora 2027-2029

C9 All electric 2030 rollout

In the Amazon and Google world we live in, we want the stuff we buy in a day and the information we seek no more than a few clicks away. Sadly, some things require patience.

As it is, the leakers haven’t leaked when the intend to leak their leaks, but rest assured that such a leak will leak right after the leakers have been told to leak the leak and not a minute sooner.

I'm thinking it's either gonna be the ZR1 or the Zora. I don't think they will release both. Just my .02

There will be three more variants. I expect them to come out in the following order. The first to be announced in the next calendar year.
  • LT2 with Electric Assist (E-RAY/Grandsport)
  • LT6 with Twin Turbo (ZR1)
  • LT6 with Twin Turbo and Electric Assist (ZORA)

For GM it's a balancing act between waiting until you need a new model to stimulate sales, and waiting too long where the performance is eclipsed by competitors (which happens VERY quickly these days).

We got the first leak over four years ago with the LT7 CAD images.

Yea, I'm anxiously awaiting the ZR1 also. The ZR1 originally was suppose to come out in 2024. But since the Z06 was delayed a year, I think it will be a 2025 model year. Reveal probably summer to fall of 2023 and start production summer of 2024 as a 2025 model year. Still a long ways off.

I don't think anyone truly believed, at least I didn't, that the ZR1 was going to come out in 2024. When I read that, I knew that was bogus and even posted a video about how much bs that was. No one knows what's on the horizon, but it is fun to speculate...to a certain extent.

**Just re-read and Motortrend and other's were saying 2023. Either way...neither makes sense.

Just trying to make an educated guess. I sure hope it's not longer than 2 years after the Z06. It will be painful enough waiting that long.

There has been no mule sightings that are suspected of being a ZR1, after photos of one has been posted people will know it's a ZR1. Then they'll be an almost 2 year wait after that sighting...

I just don’t see a boosted LT6 in the future. With Tadge talking about the intricacies of the LT6 and the tight tolerances, I don’t see them adding twin turbos to it. It would be analogous to them adding a supercharger to the LS7 for the ZR1, which they obviously didn’t do, but went with an LS3 block instead.

I have been saying this for a while. I don't think the LT6 lends itself to TT as easily as the LT2. I expect the ZR1 to be the LT6 that they are so proud of and unlikely to boost along with some electric motors for the front with maybe 800 HP. If they do a Zora, I think it will be the LT2 boosted to about 850HP and then added electric motors to break the 1000 HP mark. Looking at the YouTubers, they can easily get that kind of HP from the LT2. I think the Corvette team will want5 to keep the LT6 NA. It looks to me, and I'm not smart enough to know for sure, but the intake configuration for the LT6 with all of the valving, looks difficult to boost.

In the past, nobody had trouble twin turboing Lamborghinis or Ferraris to power levels that twisted shafts inside the transmissions.
Testarossas with 1,000 HP
Mercialagos with 1,200 HP
Basically, all you have to do is drop the compression, add intercoolers, and turn up the boost,

Why are we doing this too ourselves….. we still can’t get a price on the Z. Carbon fiber now has constraints, next will be leather and then steel, and then rubber….. all a bunch of bs

FWIW, in speaking to the GM reps at the Z06 reveal they said most likely only one more version, the E Ray will follow the Z06 in a few years and be electric assist with the LT2 motor. Slotting it between the SR and Z06. No Zora or ZR1 on the horizon as of now. Actually he said to look for a Corvette electric SUV in the near future, thought that was interesting. He did say this was “ his thoughts”, so again take it with a grain of salt.

Other points he made were they are at capacity in BG with the new platform and face many challenges, adding more versions just isn’t viable right now. He also said there won’t be a “blown” LT6. Assuming an electric SUV would be built elsewhere within GM.
