HELP! Your thoughts on AMPLIFY ORANGE vs RED MIST for my upcoming 2023 C8 Z06 ...
Hi Corvette Enthusiasts,
Fortunately, I am low enough on a dealers list to have a fair chance of landing a 2023 C8 Z06. Here's my challenge. I have always purchased a sports car and color based on what I like. I do like the AMPLIFY ORANGE a lot but I only have had rather conservative white, gray and red sports cars in the past. I am not used to that in your face orange color. Also, both my closest confidents, my wife and my brother, both dislike the Amplify Orange colored C8. My wife thinks it makes the car look too much like a toy car, and my brother, who loves and owns sports cars and knows a lot about them, says its a rip-off of McLaren's orange 570s color. Also, he thinks its a one and done color for the Corvette.
I saw a amplify orange c8 for the first time in person yesterday at a dealer. Here are the pictures I took of it for your enjoyment. I also saw the posted pictures of the amplify orange c8 Z06 from SEMA. I saw the current Z06 color poll and know that amplify orange is number one right now but I believe what color car you vote for and what color car you actually purchase may not be the same color car.
I previously owned an ARCTIC WHITE C8 coupe (see previous postings). Now, I plan to purchase the HTC C8 Z06 with the carbon flash colored top and nacelles with black wheels. Also carbon flash colored mirrors and high wing spoiler and carbon flash boomerang. I am getting the GT2 seats with black seats and red stitching. The seat pads will be black suede. My first choice of body color for my Z06 is the AMPLIFY ORANGE and my second choice is RED MIST. Both my wife and brother think the RED MIST is hot. I like it too! I have seen a RED MIST C8 in person.
Do you think this amplify orange color is a one and done? Do you think I will hear it for bringing a Mclaren colored C8 Z06' to cars and coffee? Do you like the amplify orange color yourself? Do you own an orange car? Would you choose AMPLIFY ORANGE or RED MIST and why?
I may sound like a wuss in this discussion to some of you (I assure you I am not in life) but I am truly torn in my difficult decision.
Thank you for the benefit of your experience,
Luc

Thank you for the pic's. These are the best shots I've seen of AO.
I'll be going with AO, when I first wanted Red Mist..

If you and your wife both like a particular color- go with that one. Making your wife happy should be a priority. It makes for a good marriage.

AO looks washed out in person in my opinion. If it looked like it does in the sema and reveal pics I would choose that color for myself but unfortunately it’s the lighting that really makes it pop. I don’t know your age but I feel like Red mist is a more mature color. So far my first choice is rapid blue. I don’t love it with all my heart but I like it better then the rest.

That's funny that you consider red to be a "conservative" color. I can see that with the darker shades like the Red Mist, but TR to me is anything but conservative. My wife wants ours to be TR...So guess what color we're getting?

Let me preface by saying that I like orange - I have two orange motorcycles, a black/orange road bicycle, and lots of orange riding gear, no orange car though right now. For me though, the orange needs to have a little bit of Red in it for me to like it. I liked Sebring Orange much better than Amplify. In fact I'd probably pass on Amplify altogether because it's just too base-washedout-orange for me. I'd get the Torch Red instead. But - like always - buy what you and the wife like, the most important thing is that you like it every day that you look at it.

I don't know why "one and done" is a bad thing. Bold colors rarely last long because most people are afraid to commit to something that makes a statement versus what most people feel is a "safe" color. Do what makes YOU happy in the end. I use to say I would never own a yellow car. But then I saw Honda's Rio Yellow Pearl in the sunshine and immediately changed my mind when I bought my S2000. I was dead set on black or red before that. Now, I couldn't imagine having that car in any other color. If the orange brings out emotions in you, then it's doing it's job and will likely become a favorite if you get it. Even better if it's not available again as you'll be that much more unique.

Wow, I am facing the same dilemma. I had narrowed it down to Torch Red, Red Mist and Amplify Orange. Two things helped me make my final decision:
Good luck with your choice. You might mention the age thing to your wife.
Re ripping off McLaren - ridiculous. An idiot should be able to differentiate between any McLaren and the Z06.
- I was driving home from an appointment on a rainy day with so so visibility when I noticed that no cars particularly stood out until I saw an orange car merge onto the thruway.
- Someone posted a recent thread that differentiated my three choices by age groups. 40-50 went AO, 50-60 went TR and 60+ went RM.
Good luck with your choice. You might mention the age thing to your wife.

I'm another person in a somewhat similar camp. I'm heavily leaning toward AO because it's different. As other posters noted, AO looks a lot better inside with the right lighting. Granted, I haven't seen many outside, but when I have it always looks a bit flat, a bit pastel. I liked how Sebring Orange had a bit more vibrancy and iridescence. However, I also like the fact that AO is different than the typical oranges. It's unique. Less common. Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy who wraps all of his cars in uncommon colors. My current 2016 Z06 is a color-shifting blue-purple-bronze. I like having a car that's different. Also, I really like the contrast and look of AO with black/carbon accents. If the poster were suggesting speccing the car entirely AO, then I'd be a hard no. I also want to do AO because I'll probably wrap the car fairly soon after getting it. This way I can enjoy an orange car for a bit and then wrap it another color. My dilemma is I don't want to do an entirely black interior. I was thinking of blue with level 2 carbon fiber to tone it down a bit. But then I worry about an orange car with a blue interior being a bit much. Plus, a blue interior kind of limits what I can wrap the exterior in the future (e.g. what if I want to do lime green?).
I get where the poster is coming from. He wants to do something that he likes but also doesn't want something that most other people dislike or thing looks silly. Personally, I'd rather have something that's more polarizing than somewhat anodyne. To me, white and black are boring. And black hides all fo the lines of the car. I will say that when I saw Red Mist in person for the first time I understood why people love it; it's a beautiful color.
Resale is one thing to consider. Will AO be worth less? I don't stress about that too much. I'd rather have a color I love than have one I don't but make an extra $500 when I sell it.
Remember, worst-case you could always wrap the car. Just a thought. Or get an all black car and wrap it whatever color you want.
Lastly, the comment about it looking too much like McLaren's orange is silly. First off, I didn't know McLaren copyrighted orange. Maybe you shouldn't get black because it looks like Porshe's black. And don't get white because it looks like MB's white. Whatever, that's all silly nonsense about one company "claiming" a color. I get that orange has been McLaren's racing color and so it's a bit different (more akin to MB racing silver) but again, who cares. Plus, it's not like you see a hundred orange McLarens everyday.

Hmmmmm, well I was on the fence between Orange and Blue (Elkhart Lake blue, not the rapid blue which to me is way too feminine for me personally) but after seeing these outdoor shots, it does look too washed out to me. I would much prefer the metallic orange of the 2021 C8. Bummer. :O

I've been treading back and forth on AO vs AY. I believe i'm going to be at the tail end of 2023 or beginning of 2024. I had seen the cutout AY Z06/07 at the Peterson museum during the Z06 reveal. I went to see AO stingray this weekend and agree that it looked a little washed out. I think maybe the AO needs some mica in it or something to give it some depth. Anyway, I'm going AY. I'd be even happier if they offered a porsche style ultraviolet or python green.
