Default Track rats, let's talk wheels and tires for the Z06

So it looks like there are only two options for stock tire sizes (275/30/20 front and 345/25/21 rear). The Cup 2Rs are around $3600 installed for a GT3RS, so my estimate for the larger ZP Cup 2Rs for the Z06 is $4000. Based on my experience with Cup2Rs, I would expect to get 2-3 track days out of these which makes for a very expensive track tire budget. The PS4S isn't a good option as the grip and heat tolerance isn't there.

I'm not sure a 19" wheel will clear the front brake caliper, but a 20 should be fine on the rear with a taller sidewall. That still doesn't solve the tire choice issue though unless moving to hoosiers or another slick. What are other folks thinking of doing for track tires? AP racing brake kit with 19" aftermarket wheels?

If 19s fit, go with SC3s and SC3Rs. I'm probably going non Z07, so 18 and 19 should fit.

I'm hoping for one of two things: A) Toyo releases a 20" or 21" R888R (345/30/20 or 345/25/21) or B) 19" monoblock forged wheels clear the carbon rotors/calipers to run existing R888R sizes. I emailed Toyo recently requesting they consider developing those 20" or 21" sizes with the C8Z in mind.

I'm going non Z07 too as I want iron brakes. But the front rotors are 370mm and rear are 380mm so I doubt 18" will fit. That leaves 19"s, but the Supercar 3/3R only go to 325/30/19 which would be a full 1" shorter than the stock 345/25/21.

My plan is 19" and use SC3/3R for practice/HPDEs and then stock forged wheels with CUP2Rs for competition.

AP Racing upgrade if stock brakes with girodisk rotors aren't enough.

These 18s fit the ZL1 with roughly the same size brakes as the non Z07 brakes. So there may be hope:

Fwiw, the other day at VIR I ran a 718 Clubsport on Yokohama Advan A052 tires. First experience with them and it was the best street track tire I've ever used, and they were on their third heat cycle. The Michelin SC are great for a hero session or lap, but in my experience fade precipitously. I never got much more than three hours of hard DE on them before they gave up good lap times. My understanding is that the Advan will last about 6 hours of continuous endurance racing before giving up. Don't know if they make them in Z06 sizes but if I still tracked street cars that's what I'd use if available.

I haven't heard good things about R888R, but 19's with 275/35/19 front and 345/30/19 rear R888R would be close in diameter and width to the stock sizes. A set would be around $2100 installed, so definitely much less expensive if they work well.

I had no intentions of tracking the Z06 due to cost of consumables and also it has been years since I regularly attended HPDEs.

However, what do you think would be the least expensive wheel/tire setup that would fit and be affordable for HPDE's?

I know "affordable" is different for everyone's wallet, but $4000+ for OEM 20/21 Cup2R's tires is very expensive to me if you can only get 3 or 4 HPDE weekends out of them.

I don't think they do make our sizes. I wanted to try them on the ZLE.

Here's a nice reference I like to use:

The PS4Ss are fine if you're just going out to have fun and not chase lap times.

Agree, A052's are great but nothing close to the size needed for the Z06 unfortunately.

Right now, not much need for the tires the size on Z06, but once they make a few thousand, there will be more interest in making that size. Especially in track tires as those guys will go through more than 1 set a year.

I just did some surfing of the Pirelli web site. They make a 275/675-19 and a 325/705-19 slick which should be just about perfect. I know the AP 372mm kit fit under 18" wheels so I'm hoping someone will make 19" wheels that'll clear the CCBs.

Wonder if the Nanking AR-1 will be made in usable sizes? The tyre is getting good reviews from the Porsche folks

I asked the forgeline vendor in the roadracing section if the 18" wheels they were advertising would fit with the C8Z CCBs and they said "yes":

I don't know the truth, but figured I'd bring it up here to get other's comments that might be able to confirm.

There were reports of guys running enkei 18” wheel fitting over the fronts on the GTR not sure whether it was the 380 or 390mm. Either way it’s tight.

315 is the widest and that’s an 18”, 295 is widest in 19” or 20” currently...they’re the top 200tw tire for sure

Slightly narrower and taller, but wonder if the 265/35r20 and 325/30r21 would fit the stock rims and be within thresholds of computer programming limits?
