C8 Z06 Ring time- want to see GM Z06 - under 6min44sec?

I have friends at AMG. Mercedes already knew it was discontinuing the car when they made the record run. It was a swan song to make a point.

What was the fastest lap time recorded for a GT2RS at VIR (The US domestic proving grounds) to date? It did not beat a C7 ZR1 and even had better tires than it.
To think a GT3RS is faster than a GT2 RS - No way, even comparing the new GT3RS 2023 model to the 2018 GT2RS model.
Porsches are awesome, but let's wait to see what the C8 Platform has in store. We do not know all of the variants of the C8 model yet to compare, nor do we have the times yet (I do not think we will get a Ring time, but we will get VIR and other domestic US track times to compare).

That was for the Lightning Lap. I was referencing the fastest lap times ever recorded. Jim Mero ran a 2:37.X if I recall, which was better than the GT2 RS (That said, I should have noted that I do think that Jim is a better driver than what The GT2RS had).

They sure did make a point.... to an extend. I know youve seen the lap and they ran on a very wet track. Ive been thinking that in proper conditions this thing will run 6:38.xx. Unfortunately for me Ive no friends at AMG but Ive spoken to 2 dudes with Renntech GTR/GTR Pro and they said they heard from someone that if and when Porsche beats the record they will go back @ proper conditions and take it back. But like I said Ive no buddies over there so Ive no idea if that is true or not so I cant confirm it. Or perhaps it doesnt matter anymore since Porsche couldnt do it with 1,100 lbs more downforce and 400 lbs less weight?

GT3 RS
6:44.8 in 20.6 km
6:49.3 in 20.8 km
All official GM times are in the short length 20.6 Km so ZR1 is almost 20 seconds behind which is huge
Note: Porsche is using Nürburgring for developments and their drivers have thousands of laps in the track. Even if the Z06 is capable to match Porsche times in paper, they cannot do it in reality. I am more interested to see magazine comparison tests in the same time, same driver, same condition.

The way how Porsche's carry speed into and out of turns almost causes cognitive dissonance. As much as I would love to see the C8 Z07 play in the same league as this car, I think we are going to have to wait for more powerful versions--which is a shame, really. Because it certainly isn't apples to apples anymore at that rate. How far does the horsepower and torque advantage have to be in the Corvettes favor?

All the corvette needs to do is shed about 500Lbs. Power isn't the problem, it's portliness is.

2:37.2, but within a second I feel like is splitting hairs with driver and conditions as the cars are close to being equal except for tires.
Depends on how long the straights are, in the corners it’ll need more tire to hang with the lighter car with more downforce though then the extra rolling resistance slows it down on the straights…always a trade off

I wish you bench racers would stop using Lightning Lap. This is run by journalists on a configuration (Grand) that nobody races on. VIR Full is where it’s at and the C7 ZR1 times are nutso (1:52).
I’d love to see:
1. C8Z Z07 sub 7:00 at the ring
2. C8Z Z07 match ZR1 at VIR Full

Mercedes maintains the Porsche Manthey 991 GT2RS car is a kit car that should join the other Manthey cars in the modified vehicles list and not the production list. This is actually in accordance to the KBA (NHTSA equivalent) classification of cars but Manthey is a very big funds contributor to the ring so..... for the time being the 991 GT2RS Manthey Performance Kit car keeps the title.
In light of this important disagreement, I would wager Mercedes is going to join the others and not play the game.

I think there are a couple of drivers that went airborne and then upside down that might disagree with you. I think aerodynamics are very important on that track. Power is important to attain the speeds, but drag and downforce affect the power required to attain and carry speed on the course.

To confirm the AMG comeback if needed hearsay it would take a call to the top dog at AMG and my connections do not go that high but I do know Mercedes disagrees with the Ring administrators on the technical semantics of production OEM car and kit car.

we are beating a dead horse. Porsche SMOKES every sportscar with blisteringly fast super reliable speed at all racetracks worldwide and it 100% ends up on the street. Porsche RS and GT cars even have their own spec racing series globally. Porsche is now really getting hardcore with the new RS variants.
Porsche comes to the USA regularly and sets record laptimes on famous USA roadcourse tracks. Name it Porsche owns the lap record including Pikes Peak. GM must not care as their target audience is a lot older , cruiser oriented, and not as track oriented . If GM builds 3000 to 4000 Z06 cars annually they should sell them all and consider it a win. Z06 will be a fantastic sportscar. Build less than 4000 would be smart for brand exclusivity and since its a special car. Forget the value$ relationship and building 10,000 units per year. Ruins the brand.
Jack up the price and remove 300# build a Z06 GTD PRO and jack the price to $200k plus options and minimum 700hp. Then run the “mother-fer” anf get a 6’ min 45sec laptime with a hired gun Porsche factory driver like Kevin Estre and sit back and sell 1000 units more per year. Bask in glory and build more hardcore cars for the faithful.
Excuses excuses ………..GM can get a fast ring time with Z06Z07 package guaranteed but obviously management is not interested , worried about lawsuits, and not concerned so we are beating a dead horse. As for me ive got over 25 years of road racing experience and Wild Hard core cars like GT4RS and 992 GT3RS excite me and are treasures of engineering dominance and clean innovative design versus other sportscars. I likely would never ever take a GT4RS or a 992 GT3RS out to drivers education road racing again as i might SMASH it up and would likely fix it myself so NO CAR FAX. So its simply a badass hardcore collectors item for me.
You want a German porsche racing driver for all driving duties for a Z06!! Nurgburghring RSR versus Mercedes’ GTR.
