What car are you cross shopping the C8Z06 with?
#161
I built this GT4RS today. There were not that many colors on the configurator that opened last night. 992 GT3 engine ……its going to be epic. PDK only no lousy manual tranny to ruin engagement and slow the car down. Definitely a car to cross shop or what the hell get Z06 and GT4RS.
Wanted Carmine Red or 1990s Speed Yellow …built guards red. Weissach package. Carbon seats no “Pop Pop comfort seats 18 way adjustable seats are grand-pop sears ” red belts ……..could not pay an $11000 for magnesium wheels. Psyched to be #1 on 2 lists.
Still down at least 150 HP to Z06. Great times for car guys and ICE engines!
Guards red Weissach package $17k Gold wheels 500+ German horses
Ram air intake through rear “911 opera windows from 1963” old school are I can muscle ram air lol.
Carbon seats red belts alacantara

Hard pass on the GT4RS!! I don't care how well it's going to perform, it looks like a $40-50K car with bunch of tacked oh **** on it! The Corvette looks much better.....looks like it's 3 times the price and much more substantial! And all the sudden this has turned into GT4RS Koolaid fest lol! Sure it will be highly sought after but that's mainly because Porsche will build so few and human psyche wants what it can't have! And also they finally stepped on the 911's toes and gave it an engine worth talking about and it will sure likely be a collectors item since it will probably the last ICE Cayman/Boxster created. Even if Mazda came out with a wide body Miata with double the power and said they will produce less than 1000 units and it will be the last ICE Miata they'd be super hard to get even at $100K+. Porsche marketing is just brilliant in creating an elevated perception of their cars and have some drooling over a modded version of a car that priorly they could barely sell but now the car is hollier-than-thou LOL. All that said, no desire for one. If I'd were buying a Porsche, it would be a 911 GT3.

^I gotta agree with you. I had a GT4 and it was fun on the track, but I was tracking far less, so that wasn't fun.. sold my Spyder to get on a list for another toy... but I'm very much looking forward to the Z..

A sleeper for sure, with aero kit is the way I’d spec it as well...kinda crazy it’s basically an updated 997 turbo

The Porsche configurator gives you all the prices and tally’s everything up. The GT4RS I built was at $168,000 before delivery and etc. they are not giving them away. The regular GT4 i bought in April 2020 was around $100- $107k all in.
GT$RS is a hefty upgrade in price but hell Porsche Motorsports stuck the 992 GT3 engine in it and went nutzs on aero and etc. I specked the Weissach package and that was a $14K plus option . I could not conceptualize another $11G for Magnesium BBS racing super light weight wheels. It’s a shame we Americans can not get the Clubsport package as many of us would receive the titanium behind the seats roll bar and hardcore stuff. Porsche is afraid of USA personal injury attorneys and optics.
Nevertheless- these are good times for cars guys and Chevy Z06 will get better and better and with McLaren 765LT 765HP and Ferrari F8 720HP plus ultimately C8 Twin Turbo top of line performance package will be epic for us car guys/gals as ICE go away. The only thing that needs to go away is AMP.

The GT4 RS put down a blistering 7:04 ring time. While virtually none of us will ever get to drive on the ring or even come close to that time, it's nice to see that a 495bhp car is capable of such a low time and speaks to how well sorted the vehicle is. That's why I'm cross-shopping it.

I'm 4th on a list for the GT4 RS but I'm going to pass. It's a desirable car for many, but not for me. If it had 400+ lb/tq I might reconsider, but then it wouldn't be a N.A. Porsche. The visceral effect of a 6 cylinder is just not there for me especially when compared to an 8 cylinder and above, and now that Corvette has produced an epic, industry leading V8 my decision is solidified. I've toyed with the idea of buying it and then seeing how I like it, but based on my experiences with owning these types of Porsches ( high reving low HP and TQ) I would be wasting my time. Then I think, why not just buy it and flip it, but I'm not into that, and it would be a hassle and a waste of my time. I am surprised that Porsche finally unleased the Cayman with the GT3 engine, so kudos to them. For those that are buying the RS, congratulations and have fun.

Will the C8 Z07 beat the ring time of the GT4 RS , even with 170 more HP?

I look forward to a comparison test of the gt4rs and c8 z06 w/ z07.
Tadge and Andreas are brothers from another mother. Two cool guys with awesome jobs!!!

Honestly if the z06 falls through it's going to be something like the new RS3 sedan that would just replace my current car opposed to keeping it if i get the z06

The GT4 RS was driven on the edge for the 7:09 lap time. The C8 Z06/Z07 package should be a lot more composed and should be able to put power to the ground more efficiently.

The C8 Z06 with the Z07 package should easily beat the GT4 RS ring lap time, better suspension (double wishbone vs struts), more downforce on the C8 Z06/Z07, wider tires and larger wheels as well as the e-diff.

If they don't do that then it's just a dream.

BTW: Manufacturers that participate in testing days are not allowed to video their sessions since those are testing days where other manufacturers are testing their cars.
Edit: The original 6:47 lap time for the 991 GT2 RS was for the 20.6km lap, so should be compared to the 7:05 lap on the GT4 RS.

Was the RS one that can be bought by a customer, or one that was especially prepared for the Ring time?

AFAIK: The Corvette team were using a 991 GT2 RS as a benchmark for the C8 Z06 development, that car is ridiculously fast, 6:47 for the WP car for the 20.8km lap. Compare that to the GT4 RS 7:09 lap.

2) Nobody is asking for a video, we want to know the ring time of the C8 Z07 that easily beat the GT4 RS.
I will even settle for it beating the times the Viper ACR set for American tracks.

The C8 is a much better street car being bigger, wider, better stereo, and more useable. The Porsche GT's are just driving perfection with steering, accuracy, proven engine and the PDK-S is amazing. I will probably end up buying both and letting go one but I almost feel like getting a convertible in the C8 and use the GT4RS like a weekend motorcycle. As long as resell stays high lol.

1) We all know the C8 Z07 won’t be coming anywhere close to a GT2RS Ring time without Turbos. You are just assuming they were benchmarking it for performance, which is very doubtful.
