realistic time frame if ordered today

Depends on who you order from and how much you pay. MacMulkin is about 4 years, some smaller dealers won’t even get a single Z even though they have sold multiple C8s.
If you want to pay a markup could be a year.

i wouldnt wait 4 years for any car. i live in the north east so will give them a call tomorrow. see what they have to say
I would consider locking in for a mark up, but i doubt theres a dealer that could lock in a real price on anything at this point.

Instinctively, at this point you're looking at upwards of 2-3 years, as others have said, since many dealers already have substantial lists. As far as facts go, we have no idea. It depends on how readily available GM makes them. If they are very restrictive (like the C7 ZR1), then there are some dealers (like my own) that may not see many of them.

Full production throttle @40K units X calendar year I say as lucky as one year max 2.
I suggest tracking the MY 22 production thread when it really kicks in circa September to monitor the DTP (deposit to produced) number and take it from there...
I am of the opinion the fact they are teasing the Z06 now signals they are pretty confident things are normalizing in terms of production.

All the dealerships big & small taking deposits and getting you on a list.........I know nothing is official yet. Do dealerships even know how GM will determine how they will allocate z06s? I have heard it will be based on past year sales of Corvettes, but I have not heard anyone say definitively how dealerships will know how many they're getting

Tough question. I got on my local dealer's list in early 2019 when I put the deposit down for my Stingray. They've gotten my a 2020 coupe and a 2021 HTC and, while not one of the huge dealers, they're the largest in Virginia and get good allocation.

People are assuming that everyone who has placed a deposit will end up ordering the car; they won’t.
Plus many orders will be for dealership stock and ‘flippers’ so that an ADM can be charged.
Hence availability will be there fairly early; it just depends how much you’re willing to pay over MSRP for a car you didn’t get to spec.

And remember that for some of us who put our deposit down mid 2020 we are looking at the end of a 2023 delivery schedule or early 2024. MacMulkin place number 100-200. That might be a 3 year to 4 year wait from the time of deposit. Put your money in at MacMulkin and that way should another dealer who takes your deposit decides to sell it to you for "market" or something, you have a safe and trusted backup.

Kerbeck is either the first or second largest Z06 dealer and will likely charge MSRP and have not started taking deposits yet. Might be your best bet if you can fight your way to the top once they start accepting deposits.
Otherwise your best bet to get one early is to simply pay the markup.
Pricing has not been announced yet either and you could see lots of people dropping off if the price is higher than expected. We also don't know the state of the economy in 1-2 years and interest rates and inflation. For some people a $100K car may sound fine now and not so fine later.

I'm just kinda curious of all these dealerships taking deposits and definitely people will back out & change their mind, but I'm wondering how some of these dealers really know or are just hoping for the best haha

Small dealers will screw you and many are too ignorant to understand the allocation process. You need to know the allocations... if a dealer gets 15-30 C8s a month and your number 30 you're good. If they get 1-2 a year and you're 30 then you're waiting forever... literally.

I believe them and I believe you. What amazes me is how many people have that amount of disposable income to spend on car where the wait is 3 years or longer. Absolutely fascinating. I need to get a new job or something.

Its really not about "disposable income" The real ridiculous issue here is that Chevrolet - not some crazy exotic manufacturer, has a 3 - 4 year waiting list for a corvette. Shame on me i guess for not getting in super early with a deposit... oh well. ill move on to something else
