Default Anyone running 2M Fab test pipes and universal / simulator cats w/ no CEL

Was talking with a buddy who owns a pretty prominent shop here in CA, and I got to talking about this and his first concern was a CEL. I really don't want to deal with that on my daily. I understand with my catback and these pipes it's going to be loud, but that's why I bought them lol. I did order OEM gaskets which I was told are a benefit from the "cheaper" gaskets from the makers out there. Anyone have any luck with this stuff and no CEL?

Your link is to the C8 Z06 ones. In any case my 2023 C8 Stingray has over 4000 miles of the 2M headers and cat deletes without any CEL popping up.

I’ve had the 2M sport cats for over 20k miles with no issues or CEL. Only thing notable is that I had to replace the gaskets supplied by 2M as they were brittle and caused a leak. It’s been flawless since then.

Thank you fellas. Looks like I attached the wrong link, none the less I have the Stingray pipes. Once OEM gaskets get here I will give it a whorl

Looking forward to seeing your results. My opinion is that this is the best mod for both power and sound. I just do not see where the GM 12672379 would go. You might have to source it at a parts store ( take the pipe with you a good counter man can match up something) or get 2 more GM 23194206 Gaskets.

This is what I was advised to order. I went through Rockauto and it was about $31 shipped.
GM 12672379 x 2 (cat inlets)
GM 10354707 x 1 (left/driver cat outlet)
GM 23194206 x 1 (right/passenger cat outlet)

It appears that the 2M flanges are not machined to accept the OEM gaskets on the inlet side. You'll need to get generic 3-bolt 3.0" ID flanges from the auto parts store. I'd suggest metal w/fire ring to ensure longevity.

I have full long tube exhaust and cat back system from AFE...no issues. Just installed the Cold Air Intake. Overall dyno gains 24 and 10 respectively. Sound is much much better than stock. Give them a call they are GREAT

If I install the C8 offroad cat bypass pipe ( https://shop.2mfabrication.com/produ...t-bypass-pipes ) I assume I will have a CEL. Does anyone make O2 sim or a way to get ride of the CEL?

Anyone install these yourself or did you have to bring it to a shop to get them done? I have a drive on 4 post lift so hoping I can do it myself at home.

Thanks in advance for the help!

John

John- I have these as well. From what I have been told no CEL. I still have not installed because to be honest with my MRBP catback this car at cold start is soooo fricking loud as it is. When I go in the office early I know my neighbors hate me. I have long tubes/catback on my C7 and my Camaro and this C8 is louder lol.

The kit they sell comes with everything you need so you will NOT get a CEL.

Has anyone just tried gutting the stock cats? We do it on motorcycles all the time, with a drill, a long chisel and a mallet. Spend some time cussing and swearing as you hammer them out and clean them up, and you are left with what looks stock, the O2 sensors plug back in, but it breathes easier and sounds better. CATs have a serious damping effect on the sound... Plus, gutted they will radiate a lot less heat into the engine bay...

Being that these pop out and both ends are open, this would be a simple job, no? I feel like the hardest part would be getting them out and then back in... the gutting process itself would be fairly simple...

Anyone tried it, and if so, did you get a CEL afterwards?

The only issue with that is you would be ruining $2-3k worth of catalytic converters.

Yeah, but what value are they to me? It's not like I am gonna sell my own cats, am I? or is that what people are doing? Just pulling out the cats and bolting in pieces of straight pipe with an O2 bung, and selling the cats to cover the cost or something?

At some point you might want to sell. If the buyer lives in an area that requires an emission test they will be required.

Gotcha... GA only does emissions after a car hits the 4 year old mark, and my county doesn't test emissions at all...

Does anyone sell catless cat replacements? Basically just straight piping that little piece, and then rely on the stock mufflers(active in my case) to keep noise levels reasonable?

If you gut the cat, don't toss the inners, take to scrap yard, worth money, platinum, palladium and rhodium going for around 500.00/ounce.
