I think the cost of DCT fluid is $43 a quart. For the uninitiated, this is a surprise.

Note (4) indicates the fluid needs to be changed every three years minimum.

So far I've noticed that they take just under 11 bottles total (non -track fill) when changing the fluid and filter cartridge at the same time. Usually when you fill it to the fill plug hole, then start it and run through the gears it will take about another 3/4 of a bottle.

As an update I have done the change 3 times now. It takes 8.5 quarts to fill with only the canister filter change. I add the extra 2 quarts after for track use. The latest change I had done at the dealer to get the transmission flush procedure that had been added as a new service in the past year or so. The dealer added 8.5 quarts to get to the fill line after the procedure so it is always the same result with only the canister filter change.

GM also states a transmission flush is required if fluid is 3 years old so a 2020 would be coming up on this due to age

Just had my 3 year servcie done yesterday. Tech does everything by the book and he did a flush prior to the DCT fluid change. Watched the whole procedure and flush, just like when I had it done year 1 at ~3000 miles took ~10 minutes. BUT this time took about 10 minutes to connect to the GM Service Computer! (Perhaps a reason a person posted a MacMulkin Tech and their servcie writer told him they ONLY do a flush if there is a DCT issue. Does take time and reduce any bonus from beating the GM allotted time!) BUT it is in the GM Procedure and allotted time allows for it to be done.

I watched the screen which didn't say anything significant other than some like test in progress. There was a ball going back in forth on the bottom to let you know it was working. RPM stayed at 2000 rpm in Neutral. At the end, as year one said flush copeted.

RE Thread title took bit over 9 quarts (actually Liters; 9 Liters = 9.5 quarts) with car on a lift.

BTW a filter change is NOT required for the 3 years REQUIRED fluid change. But I had my filter changed at year ne on GM's dime with ~3000 miles so had to have it done as required at 7500 miles.

I'm getting ready to do my first fluid change; do you have a link as to how you made that assembly? Plan on having mine for a long time; won't be the only time I'm in there, and I hope to track my car next spring.

TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

My '23 C8 Stingray is at my dealership here in Phoenix right now. It is one year old with 3300 miles. My service advisor told me you can get your free oil, filter & DCT filter replaced any time as long as it's before 7,500 miles. Going forward the DCT filter should be replaced at every third oil change. End of conversation.

While it may be the end of the conversation it is contrary to published GM documentation.

After the first 7500 miles and once you get to 22.5k miles, he's technically correct. 7500x3=22.5K

If you put 7500 miles/year on your car and don't drive in a manner that makes your OLM come on sooner then yes. But many, if not most, C8 owners will have their OLM indicate the oil needs to be changed in one year even though they have put fewer than 7500 miles on their car. It may work for him but it wouldn't work for me. And if his first year mileage is indicative of what he will be doing annually it won't work for him either. Perhaps he meant to say that the DCT fluid should be changed every third oil change and he always plans on changing the DCT filter every time he gets the fluid changed (which isn't required).

The ignorance of Chevy dealer service departments seems to have no limits. Because that's just wrong. Filter change requirement is 7500 miles +/- 500 miles. NOT any time before 7500. Then at 22,500, then every 22,500 miles thereafter. GM just released a complete techlink article documenting this. End of conversation.

Only if you have oil changes every 7500 miles, which for many owners will not be the case. The OLM will prompt you at a MAXIMUM of 7500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. Depending on how, and how much you drive, it could be less than either. I drive a lot (20K in 2 years) and drive hard, so my OLM generally requires an oil change around 6500 miles, not 7500 miles. But the DCT filter doesn't need to be changed at 19,500 miles. And if you only drive a few thousand miles a year, you'll end up changing the DCT filter way sooner than needed.

Sounds like blukey's dealer figured out a way to pad his bottom line doing unnecessary DCT filter changes.

Default DCT maint

If extra transmission fluid is added GM says it does not have to be removed.

I did an early oil change (best thing u can do for your engine) and the transmission filter change on my dime to remove any early particulates

I added the 2 extra quarts and feel the car shifts smother and quieter

GM requires a transmission filter change at 7500 miles even if done early. The oil and filter change must be done together if GM is paying

If the fluid is 3 years old GM requires a transmission flush of fluid and filer; about $1200.

As part of the Book labor is 3.5 hours

A transmission filter change should run about $300-$500 depending on dealer markups and larbor costs.

My understanding is in the 2024 user manual their is a statement for any transmission issues GM will look at service records to see if prescribed maintenance was performed.

With Engine running the GM Service Computer is operating the DCT valves (Andybump identified over 14) in a sequence that gets any debris washed into the filter housing. When the filter is removed it and the ~8 oz of fluid in the filter housing held whatever the "flush" dialoged is removed. Minimum every 3 years all DCT fluid has to be replaced but not with the filter change flush!

DCT filter and fluid changes should be done per the manual maintenance schedule and not that a transmission filter change is required every 3 rd oil change. Some change oil only once a year and others more frequently

^^^
Everything is about right BUT:

If the fluid is 3 years old GM requires a transmission flush of fluid and filer; about $1200

Yep need to change the DCT Fluid min every 3 years BUT not the filter! The filter change requirement stands by itself. Aflush is only attached to a filter change NOT the 3 year fluid change. It is not related to the every 3 year minimum DCT fluid change,

Now I took advantage of the FREE DCT Filter (with flush) and engine oil change year one with ~3000 miles. I knew I would not have 7500 miles end year 2 and foolish to take advantage of the FREE service end year 2 with ~5500/6000 miles just to get free. Then ~1500 miles change the DCT filter again! Plus most DCT wear occurred in that at 3000 miles so got most out year 1.

So in my case year 3 had all DCT Fluid chnaged (with required flush) a new DCT filter and engine oil and filter change using Mobil Supercar oil.

My bill was $991 for all the above!
