Default Garaged car heat build up ideas?

I’m looking for ideas on how to mitigate heat build up when the hot car is parked in the garage.
The room above my car gets very hot as well as my gym, which is next-door.
I’m thinking about a bathroom exhaust fan that goes out the side of the garage and put it on a one hour timer when the car is pulled in.

If I simply put a fan in the garage on a timer, it just moves the heat around the garage although granted it would redistribute some from the engine to the space.

My goal would be to extract the heat from the garage.

Leaving my garage open is not ideal for me. I live in a wooded area and I do not want to encourage any critters or insects to get in the garage. (As well as a 45 day heavy pollen season in Atlanta)

Whatcha got? Who has done what?

I have a sunroom that gets hot during summer. I bought a window exhaust fan (has thermostat, speed settings and can be set to suck hot indoor air out or vice-versa). Lots to choose from depending on price, specs, mounting options, etc.

Exhaust fan w/thermostat. You'll want something that moves significant air, not just a bathroom fart fan.

exactly……, something like a 24-36 inch circular exhaust fan with louvers embedded in the wall to the outside, also some type of screen/ louver in the garage door or wall to allow fresh air in.

Supply some pictures of the garage. Is there a ceiling about the garage doors? Are there any windows?
I agree with others... a thermo-controlled louver fan on the wall or a house fan in the ceiling to suck the air out.
FYI, any exit fan sucking air out requires an air inlet somewhere, usually on the opposite side.

Look at Gable vents at Home Depot and Lowes. These types are used to cool down attic spaces.
Also check out whole-house fans
They have thermo-controlled, some remote controls.

Or look at an air conditioner that vents through the wall, rather than a window. There are ones that mount permanently, and portable ones that vent through a hose that require only a 4 to 6 inch hole in the wall.

Is the garage ceiling insulated? If not check on having it done without removing drywall or whatever ceiling material you have, I believe it is possible in a couple of ways. You may still need to remove the heat but maybe not as quickly so a smaller fan might be enough. If it is insulated a large vent fan, as mentioned is the answer. Keep in mind especially with a larger fan that what goes out must come in. The "in" would be better on a shaded (cooler) outside wall if possible and you may want to filter it somehow to keep pollen, insects and dust out.

One other answer and maybe the best is having a mini-split AC installed, it may not be as expensive as you think, especially if it's all you need to do. Also there are portable floor ac's that may work, I'm not familiar with them. I have a mini split in my garage and it's great. It operates very inexpensively, cools heat from a hot vehicle quickly, keeps out the dust and mosquitos and will heat if needed.
There are several YouTube videos on doing this, (I didn't install mine myself).

I installed a mini split with a humidifier in my garage. It pretty much stays at 68-70 degrees all year long. Not to mention, garage is also drywalled, with cellulose insulation.

This. Mr. Cool DIY mini-split system, about $1200-$1700 depending on what size you need. Really easy to install. I installed one in my mother-in-law's addition to her home. Will be installing one in my garage before Summer. My garage is ~700 sq ft and has attic space above it. It is in the sun all day long and can get up to 117-120* in the Summer.

I also did a Mr Cool mini split. Works great. Beware of general vent fans in a garage as it violates most fire codes allowing heat and fire to enter attic space. The only vent fan I have found to meet fire codes is:

I agree, but in addition, exhaust fan should be thermostatically controlled and at the high point of the garage and outside air inlet(s) at the low point of the garage. Also you want about 8-10 Air changes (A.C.) per hour to effectively remove the heat. Size the fan accordingly. (Cubic feet of air flow /Hr. divided by Cubic feet of garage space)= A.C./Hr. And some type of reflective (foil face) insulation on the ceiling to reflect the radiant heat.

Five or six years ago I installed a split unit in my garage. In addition to garaging my car it also serves as a hobby wood shop. Prior to the installation I was experiencing temperatures in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Now the temperature stays at 80 degrees during the hotest months of the year.

I should’ve mentioned that I used to teach HVAC and just sold my HVAC business and retired. I definitely can figure something out. I just wanted to see if anybody had anything real clever or had used a particular garage fan product. I do have 4 Minisplits in my house along with two regular ducted high efficiency units, my company installed all of them.

Due to the location of the garage and the fact that it has windows in it I’ll have to come up with fan system as there’s no way to get Mini Split there. (Due to underground concrete walls, finished areas in the way , at front of house etc.) There are some pretty good bathroom ECM variable speed exhaust fans that move several hundred CFM. I don’t want to move a ton of air just enough to make a little bit of a difference.

The room over the garage is a problem in every house. it’s technically called a FROG, ‘finished room over garage’ Because it has three walls exposed to heat plus
the top and the bottom - five out of six sides, absorb or lose heat, depending on the season,

Thx for suggestions

I had a 24,000 BTU Pioneer Mini Split installed in my garage. It’s extremely inexpensive ($1,288.00 shipped), it very cheap to run, and it will freeze your a-s off. Three months after I had it installed my central HVAC system went out it was 97 degrees / 67% humidity outside. I cranked up the mini-split in the garage opened the garage door to the house and within 2 hours it cooled my house down to 80 degrees! That blew me away! I turn it on after driving my C8 it will cool it down quickly.

BTW, I live in Florida where it’s hot & humid!

Both of our home HVAC system's air handlers are in the garage. I cut 6" vents in the outgoing air, I have insulated doors and recently added insulation to the garage attic to R-38. Garage stays around 78* and there was not a significant increase in electric cost. You can see one of the vent's in the upper right corner.

I had a mini split installed. It's wonderful, cool in the summer, warm in the winter.
