converting to 20"|21" wheels
I have a 24 Stingray HTC. A wheel vendor is recommending that when I convert to new wheels that I migrate from 19"|20" to 20"|21". Is that a good idea? Has anyone here done that?

Only if you want more expensive tires and lower profile tires which don't ride as well and increase the risk of wheel damage. I never understood this fascination with the 20/21" wheels. I don't like the look of 20/21" wheels as the tires are already too thin looking on the wheels already. It just gets worse with the 20/21" setup. There is no benefit unless your prefer the aesthetics...

Many have done it w/o issue, but it's up to you if the looks / extra expense is worth it. IMHO the best lookin C8 setup I've seen was on 18's (IIRC) with phat sidewalls. Very 'race car'.

If you drive on a pool table, it might be okay. Given that I drive on real streets and roads, if I were changing I'd go the opposite way by an inch front and back, gaining just a little more sidewall protection, NOT less.

Lots of people do it. I have 20/21" wheels and have no issues. To me it looks a lot better having a larger wheel.

Most of the time you go up in wheel size you go with a lower profile tire in order to keep the overall diameter of the tire as close to OEM as possible. Keeping the OD the same allows the computerized traction control and braking system to work as designed. Therefore going up in size does not decrease the fender gap. Decreasing the gap and lowering the car IMO is what makes the car look better. Speaking from experience I would not want a lower profile tire than the OEM size especially if they were not run flats since we do not have a spare. I had some 20 series on my Mustang and got three flats within six months.

I would rather have at least the same sidewall height on the wheels - with crappy roads less sidewall is not what I want.

im on 20x9 and 21x12 wheels. Rides great for me. This is a corvette not a cadillac.. Smooth ride? Feels pretty good for me but i'm used to driving lowered cars.

Only advantage a super low profile tire has on the street is aesthetics...and that is an advantage only for those that like the look. I like my wheels staying straight....

Super Low profile tires are not seen on race cars. You know why? Because any advantages they have outweigh the negatives. Those include bending wheels too easily, less material to dissipate heat, less forgiving at the limit, and less forgiving on less than perfect tracks.

Most people aren't even racing their c8s here.. hell.. most dont even put any miles on it. I'm just cruising around in this thing. If i bend my wheels, i'll just buy new ones. I'm not living my life afraid to break stuff on this car. i'm enjoying it driving around the streets.

You are the one that made the "Corvette vs Cadillac" comment. I assume you were referring the Corvette being a high performance sports car. My point was that there are NO advantages to ultra low profile tires on the street other than aesthetics and even that is subjective.
There is one advantage of having bigger wheels and lower. profile tires... the advantage is looking.. awesome
