A real "trip" to dealer - you'll love this one...
'24 C8 - 1,300 miles. Note pinkish fluid puddle on floor after pulling car out of garage. My mind immediately goes to transmission. Drive six miles to dealer, they can't check it out till tomorrow. However, while speaking to service advisor he asks if I want first service completed when they check leak? I say no. Told them I already have correct oil and filter for crankcase and asked them if they would use those materials with me paying labor at a later date? They replied NO! Too much liability if I supplied inferior materials. OH BROTHER! Said I'd have other dealer do it because they will. That I was going to have oil/filter changed at 4,000 miles and I'd pay labor. Then second oil change and trans filter would be on GM's dime. Was going to pair crankcase oil & filter with DCT filter at 7-8,000 miles. He says it will all be covered now - free! I say but then I'll have to pay again when filter is due at the REQUIRED 7-8,000 miles. He and his service advisor buddy at next desk state that's not correct. What? They say engine oil & filter, internal and external trans filter and all trans fluid would be changed for FREE! I say, that's not my understanding. They say GM put out a bulletin stating what they just told me. I declined and left car to have fluid leak looked at tomorrow.
Get home and wife comes out of her quilting room to the garage so I can show her fluid on floor. SHE SAYS TO ME, WHAT WERE YOU PUTTING IT THE CAR'S GAS TANK YESTERDAY? And then it happened - I REMEMBER - I say I was putting gas Stabilizer in. Light goes on....DAMN! That's what was on the ground as I remember some did leak out of filler tube as I initially didn't use the little funnel that comes with car for adding gas/stabilizer and did over run the filler tube somewhat. My wife is now my Chief Mechanic! Anyway, went back to dealer, bought car home.
I will definitely being visiting the other GM dealer from now on. Hopefully they are much more knowledgeable on what GM requires.

FWIW, I think going to a car dealer for service and bringing your own oil, filter etc is like going to a restaurant and bringing your own wine or beer! Yep the markup on drinks is far higher than a dealer makes on parts even if they charge MSRP!
I've seen folks be critical because I give the dealer's great C8 Trained Tech a tip. But they will give 20% tip to a water who has limited skills without batting an eye. Tech just did the PDI on my E-Ray and got a very nice tip!
I have a great dealer! Charges reasonable prices, NOT MSRP but also not Walmart 5-quart jug prices. I'd be embarrassed to bring fluids, filters (and hard for me to get embarrassed.) Now I did all my engine oil changes in my 5 prior Vettes to my C8. Yep bought 5-quart jugs of the GM spec'd Mobil 1 oil AND turned in the Mobil rebate. Heck even my two C7's that had FREE oil changes did not want to trust the large Chevy dealer in town. They usually had a newbie working the oil change bay and who knows if they would deal with my C7 dry sumps properly as I did whan I chaged oil (i.e. to do the job correctly had to check the oil level AFTER it reached 175 F and then wait 5 minutes for the oil to drain down from the baffles in the dry sump tank BUT not more than 10 or some would drain back to the pan and you'd get a low reading. Nope did my own changes correctly.
With the C8 needing the GM service computer to do a flush required prior to a DCT filter change, decided time to have this great dealer service I found ~40 miles from my home do the work.
Probably smarter to find a competent dealer service and check out their prices.
This is my bill from last August's 3 year "did everything service" on my 2020 C8 Z51 (now sold.) GM Specd Mobil 1 Engine oil and AC filter, all DCT fluid charged with GM specified fluids. DCT filter with Flush prior as GM dictates. They even give me a special discount- never asked why! I have watched all service and tech puts up with my questions mostly while I'm standing outside an open service bay door.

Some industries are built around tipping, some are not. Servers and bartenders---tip them. The plumber doesn't need a tip. The Chik-Fil-A cashier does not need a tip. Your barber--give them a tip.Your dental hygienist doesn't need a tip. Don't disrupt the delicate ecosystem of tipping and non-tipping industries! :-p

How silly! I tip when I get good service, especially from a well trained professionals as you call them. This is a skilled trade that takes time to learn. Hard to get folks who are willing to work with their hands. Yep my tips will assure I get a great job the next time! Sometimes I do it before hand! At Discount Tire I've had two tires replaced on my C8 *have their tire insurance." Told Tech there is a $20 tip if no dings on my wheels. Earned the $20!
Been in the welding business for 60 years *not as a welder," R&D Company Exec etc. BUT have learned a lot from welders. Where I can I give tips. Not my dentist (who is a glorified technician as any tough work I get set to a specialist. No don't tip the hygienist BUT do the gal that clips our poodle and the folks at Subway, who do have an influence on my sandwich. Not like McDonalds (actually don't go to McDonalds!(
Now the foolish Union pressing GM to give $39/hr increase to auto assembly folks ofrcrazy CA with $20/hr minimum to fast food folks is nuts. BUT that will just create automation, robotics etc and half will be out of work!

JerrU, interesting that your dealer charged $30/Qt. for the DCT oil. GM price is somewhere between $47 and $50 per quart. The same oil but with DELCo PN as well as GM PN is sold by Summit racing for $27/qt. You have a great dealer.
