Default Mobile tire mounting service

My apologies to those who already knew and have used this in the past, but I did not know this was a thing... perhaps I'm getting too old to remain "in touch", but TIL that TireRack has a service van that will come out and mount/install tires for $40/tire. Given the absolutely insane price I was charged by the dealer last time, I'm definitely going to give this a shot. I just scheduled an appointment for this coming Monday. I had the summer tires removed from the stock rims when I picked up the car a couple of months ago (threw winter boots back on the stocks), so they'll be going back on the new BCForged rims that just came in.

Even if it's a bit more expensive than some of the local shops (and certainly not by much!), not only does the shop come to me, but I'm saved the major inconvenience of having to engage the services of my wife's truck to haul 4 rims and 4 tires out. I also get to stand by and watch rather than sit in a waiting room reading 10-year old fishing magazines, hoping they are treating the rims well. If only I knew earlier...

Personally I'd be cautions and would inquire as to what make/model changer they have on the van. Changing C8 tires isn't the same as changing tires on a Corolla. I will take mine to Discount Tire where risk of them cracking a wheel is MUCH lower.

The one concern would be accurate tire balancing.

In the future I will be getting the tires balanced through a process known as, "Road Force Balancing". Never did it in the past but after seeing a demonstration on Tech Tuesday I think that is the way to go to get the best quality wheel balance.

Default hunter tire changer

I'm changing my wheels and was also concerned about choosing a facility. I went to the hunter.com and searched for their installed equipment (hunter evolution, roadforce balancer) close to me. I found a shop with both and will have them do the job (reasonable @$55/per) after I ceramic coat the new wheels. This was far less than my local Chevy dealer, who had older equipment.

It's interesting how many in-your-driveway services are available these days: tire mounting and balancing, bent wheel repair, scratched wheel repair, body dent removal, windshield replacement, detailing, etc.

Discount Tire owns Tire Rack. Perhaps they are behind the mobile van. If so, can't beat Discount Tire for my money.

Thank you as I didn't know that Discount Tire owned Tire Rack but do find it interesting that Discount rolled out the program under their subsidiary as opposed the the parent Discount Tire.
There's got to be a reason for this. Perhaps in case the program flopped or in the event of a liability issue it would be much less associated with the parent brand.

Discount Tire pays tire shop rents. Tire Rack doesn't.

This is a net positive to Tire Rack, would cannibalize Discount Tire installs.

Also, I think it appeals to a Tire Rack shopper ("Internet Friendly Buyer") more than a Discount Tire shopper ("Drive to a store shopper").

A friend has been using this type of service on exotics for years and loves it.

Again, thanks for the info as makes since. I don't really get into the weeds over tire companies as Discount Tire has an great rep among Corvette enthusiasts so I just take my Corvettes or wheels/tires to them and call it a day. For anyone who see mobile service as a benefit, more power to you.

Default Mobile Tire Service

These folks mounted new tires on my 2023 C8 Z06 and I can highly recommend them. Very professional and not a scratch on the new wheels

Default New World Order

In our community recently: A mobile veterinarian, a dog groomer, dentist (crazy), Tread Logic tire van, Safelite windshield, AAA Batteries, Door Dash, Uber, and a general purpose auto mechanic. Plus the usual delivery suspects i.e. groceries from all the major players, amazon, etc. Sign of the times.

Despite having an appt. for later this afternoon, I'm unfortunately unable to try it just yet... my TPMS sensors didn't ship with the rims, so I have to reschedule once I know when they will arrive (and hope they also have the proper stem nuts). <sigh>
