Default Is Mobil 1 ESP X3 0-40 correct oil?

Cannot find Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 oil anywhere, not even on Mobil website, everything is Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 for European sports cars. Who sells it or is the X3 the replacement? Both are Dexos 2. My car is a 2022.

If you have a 2020-2022 you can use either Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 dexos2 or Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 dexosR oil. Technically 2023s and later only allow dexosR oil.

That looks like X3 formula.

Forget the x3. Go with the M1 Supercar 0w-40 Dexos R, it's the same as the M1 ESP 0w-40 Dexos 2

If the OP has a 2020-2022 and the X3 is less expensive why go with the Supercar 0W-40?

Interesting though my early 2020 owners manual says nothing about X3, only to use ESP Dexos 2. Sure it didn't come with X3.

X3 is in the process of being retired and being replaced by Supercar 0w-40 Dexos R.

As far as price I recently purchased 8 quarts of SuperCar Dexos R for $8.47 per quart plus tax and shipping for $85.51. Since we know the C8 takes 7.5 quarts a change what do you do with the extra 2.5 quarts purchasing when buying two 5 gallon containers. Could be wrong but I don't think your going to find X3 per quart at $8.47, especially now at limited supply.

AutoZone currently has a deal on 5 quarts of 0W-40 X3 and a filter for $40 with free shipping. You can return one or both of the filters if you want for an even cheaper price and put the additional ~2.5 quarts on the shelf for the next oil change.
I returned the STP filters because I already had a M1 filter and was unsure about the bypass pressure but the filters looked pretty good and are probably made by Champion Labs. If you covered both the STP and a PF64 filter housings with masking tape so you couldn't tell the brand I'd pick the STP filter. It was heavier and had a metal element support.

Not bad and makes sense just don't know how long X3 will be around. Maybe buy two 5 quarts if X3 is unavailable in 12 months.

Kracka's has got me hooked on the Fram XG12060.

Someone posted that the AutoZone deal will end April 1 but I don't know if that is true. If you buy 15 quarts you will be good for two oil changes (might have to buy 1 more quart for the 2nd change depending on how it goes).

The part number for the STP filter that comes with the deal is S12060XL (there are also other filter options). Fram filters are made by Champion Labs and looking at the STP part number it likely is also.

That STP filter is ok; similar to the Fram ToughGuard TG12060. Basically the same as a Champ Luber-Finer XL filter.

I'd use either of those those two on my other vehicles (I actually have a few in my garage for the Jeeps), but on the C8 I'll stick with the XG12060.

Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 was a dexos2 motor oil. I do not believe it is made anymore. It is not listed in that viscosity any more in the Mobil 1 product guide.

Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 was a dexos2 approved motor oil. It is not the same as Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40, and that can be determined by reviewing the respective PDS's. This oil is also no longer supplied with this name. This oil was renamed Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40, and it has a dexosR approval. It is, for now, the same oil - as the Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40, according to a Mobil.

Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 is a dexos2 approved motor oil and is yet a different formulation as can be seen by inspection of its PDS. There is no evidence that this product is "going away". What GM has said is that as of 2025, dexos2 will be discontinued. That does not mean that oils with a dexos2 approval are going away - only that GM will no longer license dexos2 oil. Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 has plenty of other OEM approvals, meets other industry standards, and has plenty of applications that do not require a dexos approval.

Got a random call from the dealer yesterday and wanted to schedule an oil change as my car apparently was at 20%. WTF how did you know lol. I did my first change at 7K exactly I am at 12,854 now so that makes sense. I typically do my own oil changes and figured this girl would take good ole Mobile 1 syn like the C7 and Camaro. Nope now I need some fancy ****. Cmon man. LOL I have an Autozone down the road and if you spend more then $100 you get 20% off and free shipping. I looked on Autozone and all I found was this supercar stuff for $12.99 a quart. Can someone send me the link to the deal. I will use that STP filter. Man its a LT2 nothing fancy. All my other LT's have been fine. Wait never mind I blew up the C7 with 25K. Forget that last part. That was operator error I have a 2023

I am going to take this fancy oil from the C8 and put it in the Camaro. She is going to love me. I'll use oil from Costco in that car and it will walk my C8 hahaha

Here is a link for the X3 oil:
https://www.autozone.com/motor-oil-a...=mobil+1+0w-40
Choose the $38.99 Mobil bundle under the regular price. You can get a Mobil 1 filter (get a M114a if you choose that) or a STP filter for $35.99.

One note about the STP S12060XL filter. The specs on the AutoZone website list it as a 15psi bypass pressure but I believe that is a typo. I'd call the STP tech support number on the box (my bet is it will be Champion Labs providing the support) and verify that it is 22 psi before I used it.

Champion/Fram part #'s containing 12060 use the correct 22psi bypass.

I'm getting another 15 qts ordered up, thanks!
