Bg moa (#110)

Bg moa (#110)
Just got my allocation and the dealer is wanting to add a "Protection Plan". Looks to be around $1,300 and includes Nitrogen in Tires (probably not needed), door guards (protection on door edges and door handle cup), window tint, and an engines for life program... Basically it looks like snake oil to keep retnetion for their service department. The requirement is that I add this BG MOA (#110) additive to every oil change. I found the sales pitch on the BG website lol.

Out of all those things, the only ones I'd actually get value from are probably the door guards and tint. How much do those typically run by themselves? Also would the BG MOA be bad for this car? I hear it can increase the oil viscosity, not sure if that's good in a sports car.

I think that GM specifically warns against using ANY and all oil additives. I believe that you'll be at great risk of voiding your warranty. I'd decline AND/OR find a different dealer.

Are they crazy?

It's Oklahoma man, I haven't found one Chevy dealership that shoots straight yet. It's a constant back and forth with this type of crap. See my other thread about a dealer wanting me to sign a document that would give them right of first refusal to repurchase my car FOR LIFE!

There is no door handle "cup" on the C8. Getting your side windows tinted would run about $250 for a premium guaranteed for life tint like Xpel Prime XR Plus nano-ceramic..
The rest of that stuff is a big NO. In fact,

From the 2020 Owners Manual concerning oil additives:
2024 Owners Manual has the same warning:
Engine Oil Additives/Engine
Oil Flushes
Do not add anything to the oil. The
recommended oils meeting the
dexos2 specification are all that is
needed for good performance and
engine protection.
Engine oil system flushes are not
recommended and could cause
engine damage not covered by the
vehicle warranty.

My recommendation is to decline that add on package. Nothing that you need, especially for that price.

You can get nitrogen for free at costco. They offer it for free at their tire pump area, you pump in yourself.

2023 C8 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
We put MOA in every car 20 years ago....but 99% of cars were on dino oil.
It is not required or needed with todays advanced blends and synthetics. I have numerous high mileage vehicles that have never seen anything but synthetic oil and never a drop of an additive.
The BG guy will tell you differently, but he needs to make his C8 payment...

They do this same garbage at my local Chevy and GMC dealer (Hendrick network dealers). It's stupid and a huge profit center for them. Funny enough when they have cars in demand the enforce that they 'have to charge' for this. yet, when I went in and they needed to move a car, they literally took the additional window sticker and tossed it in the trash and told me direct to my face that this is 'worthless' and we'll start with the original window sticker.
GM really shouldn't allow dealers to do this outside of one off vehicles to show off the GM accessories for the showroom floor. For it to be on every freaking car is just shady business practice and I've always just walked away when they don't take that additional BS off.

It's very simple, you just decline any additional items. No "protection packages", no wheel & tires warranties, no extended service contracts, etc.
If a dealer refuses to sell you a vehicle without those additional packages, go somewhere else.

When I bought the C6 they tossed the additional charges. But when I wanted to buy a Camaro SS 1LE they would not come off it.

Dealerships expect that consumers will want stuff like PPF, tint, etc--but aren't educated enough to know anything about the types of these products available. If a dealership was going to offer ceramic XPEL tint and full-body (or at least front) PPF XPEL Ultimate Plus--then bundling it at a reasonable price isn't a turn off for me.
But what happens instead is that they figure what the bottom-basement price is for top-shelf product installation, subtract 10% off the price of that, and then charge the consumer that reduced price...for entry-level, low-quality product.
