Transmission Choice - DCT vs MT
If Chevrolet offered a true manual alongside the DCT, which would you opt for?

I had manual transmissions in my two Z06s. I would for sure take a manual in my 24 stingray, had it b been an option. I don’t track or race and don’t care if the auto is .126 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile. I just like shifting. I’m sure I’m in the minority.

I’ve always been a manual person but on my C6 it started to get old with the traffic we now have. I voted DCT but that is as long as it remains trouble free, knock on wood.

I love the DCT in my C-8. When I drive my C-1 or C-2 with 4 speeds, I've never once thought " I wish my C-8 had a manual trans.".

2020 C6 of the Year Winner - Modified
My DD's are autos and my weekend fun vehicle is a manual. It would depend for which category this vehicle was purchased.
Doesn't matter anyway, a low % of Corvette owners select manual transmissions because buyers are older.

As we know there is no option for a manual transmission on the C8. It doesn’t matter what you prefer. It’s what you get. If you need a manual you go somewhere else.

Hopefully they follow Porsches example and return the manual to select models,, may be a way to boost z06 sales after the Zr1 is released

I can play more at all speeds with a M. The C8 is a very complex piece of equipment. Compare that to the simplicity of the M I'd jump to an M quickly. I even talked to a few dudes like the Kindig boys to ask if they could do a conversion. They were not interested.
I've had 3 C8s 2 coupes and a HTC trying to love the tranny. It is a fabulous impressive transmission, how it thinks ahead, anticipates and is so fast and smooth. But for me its like a video game.
I got a 25 Cadillac BW teed up and shocking to me am looking at P cars. I've had Corvettes for 23 years all manuals prior to the C8.
I did talk to the GM boys at Carlisle a few years back and they wanted to offer a M. But no supplier felt there was a demand for an M that warranted development so away it went.

I understand the desire for a traditional MT but admit that a good DCT is almost always faster and easier to use especially in a track setting. Where GM missed the target is using TREMEC for their DCT. It is IMHO not a great transmission and clearly has or had some design faults. Hopefully this has been resolved in later builds but I continue to see threads with reported transmission failures.

No doubt, a manual. My ‘71 had a four speed and even with the reduced hp that year it was fun to drive. My ‘76, ‘82 and ‘12, along with my ‘24 all had/have automatics, because my spouse was a driver now. I don’t track or even terrorize todays’ rotaries and cloverleafs however, I do like the added connection to my cars.

I enjoyed manuals when they were 4 or even 3 & 5 speeds in all types of cars. They were simple, fun to drive and the cars they were in were just as simple. Today's 7 speed manual transmissions in computer controlled, complex cars don't offer that same feeling of banging through the 4 gears of an L79 327/350 Vette. I love the DCT in the C8 for what it is and how capable it is performance wise.

I just came from a C6 Grand Sport with a manual. I had been driving that since '16. The prior C5 Z06 was also a manual. If I could have gotten a manual I would have even if for nothing else other than it is more reliable. I liked shifting but the DCT is quicker and smoother. I just worry that I will have a big repair bill one day. I get why GM doesn't offer a manual. The number of people that would purchase it is small, and as a trans axle I wouldn't think it could be used in many other vehicles.

I only currently have 9 miles on my 24 coupe. I really enjoyed rowing through the gears with my C6. I was able to get a test drive before I ordered and was amazed at the shift speed at normal driving speeds. This car is probably more attuned to the DCT.

Please explain computer controlled? If you are referring to the 1 to 4 skip process that is easily overcome with more throttle.

I love the old school Muncie in my ‘70 C3, but I understand Why GM won’t even consider a manual C8.
I read that only 15% of C7’s were optioned with manual. If that’s accurate, it makes no fiscal sense for GM to consider a manual.
My point is that ultimately, Corvette purchasers were the ones who killed the manual, not GM.
