USB audio missing shuffle option and stop auto-play phone music
I'm carrying forward a USB stick with all my music from my C7.
My habit is to turn on shuffle and just let the app play whatever.
I'm not able to find the 'Shuffle' option in my C8 that was one of the few audio options in my C7.
Next, is there a way to default audio to playing the USB stick rather than the songs on my phone.
Every startup it is defaulting to playing songs off the phone rather than the USB stick.
I tried setting memory option with USB audio playing but it is still defaulting the phone on next startup.

Answering my own questions
Today the car decided that the USB stick is ok to use and started with it.
As to the shuffle, not as obvious as C7,
Select the USB device and play a track, click on the track to get to a 'now playing' type of screen,
The now playing screen has a shuffle button.
2 days in and dang but I'm loving this car.

One problem I'm having with the USB music is randomly the shuffle is not selected when starting up my 23 3LT. Sometimes it says device not found but then it finds it in a few seconds.
And yep I'm loving this C8 so much I put 15k miles on it in the last 7 months since I got it.
I assume you're driving a 24 which might be different...

I find whatever was last active (Bluetooth, USB, FM) at last shutdown, seems to be the first choice next time out.
Is the shuffle good only for one folder/album or does it shuffle then entire USB contents, or have you figured that out yet?
I created my USB drive content using WMP's "CD Rip" function on a laptop to the Music folder, then copied it all to the USB drive.
So I have Albums/ Artists, Folders, Songs, etc. all available as sort options.
It's still winter here, so haven't had a chance to really dig into this stuff.

I tend to shuffle the entire library so not sure about artist/album shuffle,
In theory you could create a playlist for the artist/album and store it on the stick and the app should find it,
Then choose that playlist and shuffle.
My c7 would de-select shuffle if I removed the stick (say to add/remove tracks) and put it back in,
Haven't had that happen in the C8 yet.

A little tricky but fairly easy. First select the category: genre, artist, etc. Select All Songs, then play any song, and select Shuffle.

Yesterday tried playing an Album, and hit the shuffle button, but it only shuffled the tracks in that Album.
Since I don't care what order a specific album's tracks are played in, it's not terribly useful.
I guess if your USB drive has hundreds of tracks, without any kind of grouping in place, shuffle might randomize all of the tracks it sees.
WMP "CD Rip" creates separate folder/albums/songs/artists/genres/whatever, as separate folders, so shuffle isn't worth the trouble.
I may try to create a USB drive with all the song tracks only, cut and paste them into the main USB as separate files, and see how that works.
Seems like it depends on the how contents of the USB drive are organized.
Make sense.

I created a USB drive with only individual song files, no folders, albums, or other organizing structure. Took a while to copy/paste groups of songs from their album folders to the drive, but it was worth the effort.
The system plays a "random" sequence of songs, because the audio system seems to index or organize them in alphabetical order. Which randomizes the order of play.
That works for me.

Is there an advantage to using USB's rather than just shuffling with a music app on the phone?

I do this to save battery on my phone which doesn't fit in wireless charging area due to protective case (otter box is great but huge)
I have much more music on my USB stick than I can fit on my phone.
My stick is formatted NTFS and seems to be detected without issue.
Has very organized Artist \ Album folder structure.
Alphabetical works as pseudo random till you get multiple copies of tracks due to studio and multiple live albums.
