It would depend on why it was a buyback. Was it simply let’s say a transmission failure, but took GM let’s say 50 days to get a replacement to the dealer so owner instead lemon’d it for the time period it was down for?

If so yeah sucks it had a transmission failure, but it was only “lemon” due to the time to get a new transmission in it. But wouldn’t scare me away.

Now issue after issue after issue, yeah I wouldn’t touch it.

The issue is you get a Branded Title and when you go to sell it the car will be worth less.

Well just my two cents so it’s worth absolutely nothing but it seems that a buy back could be a good deal. Other than that it could be a real bad deal. Usually buy back cars either come with a Branded or Total loss title. Yeah they’re cheaper but it (May) be harder to both get the car financed or insured. Insurance companies for the most part don’t like to insure cars that have already been totaled. And unless you have super excellent credit you may not be able to finance the car unless you pay cash. Add to that later on if you decide to trade or sell the car a lot of dealers won’t except a totaled car. Perhaps a new or even a used car with a clear title would be a better choice. But it’s up to you.

It does depend on the problem but even then it would have to be at a significant price reduction and that will depend on the dealer that is selling it. I would say minimum 40 - 50% off MSRP. You will have to sell it privately and the only buyers will be those looking for a really good deal because dealers will not take that car back in on trade.

Anyone who send a new C8 back for replacement is a car I don't want.

I would not buy a car that was a buy back as I would not want a car with a branded title.

Too many other C8's available to even consider a buy back vehicle in my opinion. I believe there is a greater risk that problems will reoccur and even if trouble free the vehicle will always be "tainted".

A few IFs:
* this car "checks all the boxes" for you
* you will never, ever sell the car so the BRANDED title is a non-issue
* the car is certified by GM to be "healthy"
* the price is insanely good
Then GO FOR IT.

50% off? OK.

Anything less? Why bother?

Would have to have a 10 year B2B warranty included with the 50% off. Walk away. You don’t want a car with a branded title. Sam

I personally would not buy any car with a salvage title. The loss of value and difficulty when I resell does not make it worth the trouble.

That being said, My wife’s CT6 was a buyback for a transmission problem and the title is not branded or salvage. It was purchased in Wisconsin so I’m guessing they don’t brand a title for buybacks. The trans problem is documented in the GM service system but I’ll keep it until any dealer won’t want it due to mileage and age, not service history.

ps. Bought the car with 12k miles. It now has 70k miles and I have learned that if I drop the trans pan and change the fluid every 15k miles there is no problem with the transmission.

It is possible the car was acquired in a way that kept the title clean because most, if not all, buy backs will still have a branded title in WI. I bought one for 50% off the going rate of comparable used cars with clean histories but my intent was to keep the car until the value was so low the title had no effect anymore. In that particular case I kept the car for 12 years and sold it for $2500.

Without knowing the price and vehicle being offered, can't answer that question.

I use to live in Ohio. This dealer works the resale circuit.....

https://www.laveryauto.com/reacquired

I have known several folks who bought and subsequently resold recycled cars including Corvettes and were very pleased. In fact one club member bought several Corvettes here. They disclosed the problem, everything is upfront. Good friend bought a C6 Vert. Resold because of a leaky roof. Not sure why it was ever bought back, who knows? Can't be that hard to fix. Roof never leaked the number of years he owned it.

My local Chevy dealer has a number of buy back C8s in stock. A branded title is just not something I want to deal with. It would have to be a heck of a deal to even consider. If you ever wanted to sell, it would be a precious few who would be interested in buying.

Where are these 50% off C8 Corvettes at?
If I get the vehicle right - it wont bother me when/ if I decide to sell.
