Default First DCT filter flush/change

7500 miles on my 2021 C8 and my first DCT filter change. I was cringing at the thought of the cost, reading what some people paid. But nice surprise....$358.....had a 20% Discount as a part of the Corvette Club that the dealership sponsors!

Well, its not free for 2 reasons....1...The free service has to be done within 2 years.....2...I am not the original owner, and the original owner got the free service done way before the 7500 miles so the filter was not done.....only the first oil change.

It’s the fluid change (every 3 years for most of us) that gets more expensive, especially if you change the filter at the same time. Retail cost on the fluid is somewhere around $50 a quart and you’ll need around 10 quarts. So add that to the cost of just a filter change.

So I'm guessing you didn't want the FREE fluid change that is offered?

There is no free fluid change, unless you are talking about the oil change. The transmission fluid change is due at 3 years or 45,000 miles, and it is costly.

$358 is a bargain. The list price of the filter alone is $237.90. When I needed the filter replaced at 22,500 miles, I received quotes from $625, $850 all the way to $1,000. Ended up getting a 15% Costco auto service program discount which brought the cost down to about $530.

Regular price several places I checked were, like you said, upwards of $700. My dealer price was $416 before tax, then 20% off of that.....a good deal, I felt.

The three year/22,500 mile (whichever occurs first) DCT service that includes 10 qts of fluid, a new inner transmission filter and a new external filter ran about $1,300. That included the $600 labor charge.

Interesting that they changed the internal sump filter as there's no maintenance frequency for that filter. Only gets changed if there's an internal issue with the trans whereby there's risk of contamination.

The requirement is to change the fluid when the fluid life monitor says so, or at least every three years, whichever is first. Earlier manuals showed this in table form with footnotes. But the table said at 45000 miles to "Check the dual clutch transmission fluid life percentage. Change the fluid if needed. (4)" and footnote 4 said "Or every three years, whichever comes first." Later manuals said the same thing in text form but also added a specific requirement to change the fluid at 45000 miles (in addition to the 3 years, or fluid life monitor) which ever is first. There is no stated requirement to change the internal filter in the Owners Manual, and the Service Manual has a drain and fill procedure that does not include changing the internal filter.

The DCT external canister filter changes are triggered by mileage only, and are between 7000-8000 miles for the first one, then 22,500 for the second, and every 22,500 miles after. Later models added a filter life monitor, so the requirement becomes mileage or when the filter life monitor says so.

There is no requirement to change the DCT external canister filter when the fluid is changed, unless the triggers for those service events happen to be coincident.

Oil changes are when the OLM says so, or at least once a year.

So these are on separate schedules triggered by different mileage, time, or life monitor events - and do not necessarily coincide into a single "service event"

A dealer may bundle these and call it a 22,500 mile service or a 45,000 mile service, but it is not written that way in the Owners Manual.

The free first service only includes an oil filter and oil and the transmission filter. It does not include the transmission fluid as it is not needed for this service.

book on the transmission fluid replacement is about 3.5 hours labor. Fluid can be purchased for about $25 a quart but dealers charge $43-$50; my '20 with 2 extra quarts was $1,100

I don’t have the particulars on recommended/required replacement of the internal filter. I have had zero issues with this car since delivery in November of 2020 and have driven it everywhere. Dealership has performed all services. Great service writer and Corvette tech. Been servicing/repairing my Corvettes for the last 10 years.

That internal filter is a $200 piece.

Thanks. Unfortunately the dealer is correct, at 7,500 only the filter/top off needs to be changed. Lots of folks here are making sh*t up and don't want to admit they are wrong. At $410.00 Im going to do it myself next time until a FLUSH is really warranted. Thanks again
