I see things like this and it reminds me that while time marches on and advances have been
made on vehicles, GM had some pretty amazing vehicles in their past.

Don’t get me wrong, the C8 is pretty. The C8 is fast. But I think for timeless overall performance, the one on the right has proven its worth.

If this were your garage, would you go left or go right?

True. Some like blondes, others like brunettes.... Then, there's redheads...

The grand national has about 275 horsepower and runs the 1/4 in like mid 13’s.
back in the day it was an “ok” ride.
My wife’s Acura tlx does about that. No fun at all.

Then you should sell the car on the left. Why keep the less exciting one?

To me, this is an example of poise falsely being equated to boring. Shelby Cobra 427 is probably MAD "exciting"; but that's what happens when you slap giant power into something that has no refinement to safely handle it. Kind of like the 930 widowmaker.

As I see it, the poise that modern cars come with means that you have to push yourself MUCH further into your discomfort zone to get to the point where the car is at limits and you have to control it. And older car with more limitations (traction, brakes, etc) tends to announce its limits at lower performance thresholds, meaning that you don't have to wring it out as far to experience the "thrill" of having to compensate.

So my take on something like a C8 being "boring" for some people is because you have to be absolutely flogging it before it starts communicating its lack of capability.

As much as I like the GN and especially the GNX, I'm going left--every time.

The C8 for sure, the GN does nothing for me.

What is striking to me is that from the rear those two cars look to be about equal in size not counting height.

Take that back. After a second look the C8 appears the larger.

Pretty wild, isn’t it?

Look at the Porsche 911. That car grew in proportions over the years. Wonder how Corvette measures up?

Definitely left. I never quite got the Grand National frenzy in the day frankly. A Buick regal with a 6 cylinder turbo? Yawn. I would have picked a Vette of that year over the Buick. It just never excited me. I worked with a guy who had one and rode in it all the time so had plenty of opportunity to experience it. I get that some guys think these were so hot, I just didn't quite get it.

To compare it to a C8 is like comparing a '33 Ford to a 70 LS6 Chevelle or 70 Hemi Cuda.

…my C8 gets the left side too! ‘98 Camaro Z28 6 speed, w/LS6 longblock swap on the right. 2 entirely different animals. C8 is refined and faster in every way, but the Z28 is raw, and feels faster as you shake in your seat idling at a red light. Both fun, but I take the C8 way more it seems…

Older cars are always more exciting because of the danger. 500hp with Nannies vs 500 without. The old car is fun going slow, the new car is fun going fast.

I actually saw a Grand National today. It looked like they always did, menacing.

I'm prejudiced, but I prefer these two as choices. I often split the DD duties between the two....

I have a 6 cylinder turbo (twin btw).....and it's as much fun as my 2021 C8. It does about 30 years of progress on the GNX.

Yawn? I bet you never drove one.

I have, and owned a couple. Still own one today, amongst my Corvettes. Variety is the spice of life

That looks really fun!!!

I am sure progress has helped. I mean, even the 86-87 Turbo Buicks benefit greatly from some modern tweaks.
