My car insurance went up by 40% this year. What's your experience?

USAA has crushed me in the last 12 months. I did not do the actual math, but it feels like 40-50% increase when I look at the difference in home and auto.
I fully expect this to happen again at the next renewal.
When I called State Farm, they were more than double when I had quoted the in early 2024.
It is all INSANE and seems to be out of control with no end in sight

My same experience with USAA also.

Back in 2020 when Covid 19 hit, Progressive insurance sent me $2000 ($400 back for each vehicle) telling me, they were refunding everyone, because claims/accidents were down, because no one was driving. I knew this was only temporary, as they will find a way to stick it to us again in the future. Sure enough, I have my C8Z insured with Liberty Mutual, $2000 for the year, includes everything, PIP/Medical/WorkLoss, etc. even better car if my Z06 is totaled. Well it went up $800 for this year. My other 4 vehicles through Allstate, it pretty much stayed the same. So not sure if it's just on certain vehicles? Insurance also depends on what state you live in too. Seems like NoFault states have higher premiums than At Fault states, but that may have changed over the years. Regardless, Insurance is the biggest legal Ponzi scheme ever created..

My automobile insurance premium total (for 4 vehicles) went up an average of 41% last July 2023. Insured by Wawanesa which is a well respected company and *was* well known for it's favorable rates and only insuring "good drivers".

Too many variables to make sense of individual rates/increases, from near constantly varying state regulations, to weather extremes, to all the standard stuff we all fairly well understand and expect.

I should have gone into the insurance business. Most years they make billions and occasionally there is a bad year and they get hit hard but that’s the deal! If you sell insurance you print money and are supposed to save and invest it for when the **** hits the fan. Now insurance companies make billions, pay too much to executives and overhead and when they have bad year they jack up the rates.

So I didn’t read the whole thread. My rates went hella up across the board. C8 started at $550 for 6 months finished at $780 for 6 months. Always multi policy and same policy. They say it’s because covid discounts are gone. State Farm.
my mini van, Kia Sportage and Mazda cx5 are also slightly higher the lst 12 months but like $10-$50 per 6 month period

Mine almost doubled in the last year, with Progressive (which bills every 6 months). And absolutely nothing changed: same vehicles, same location, perfect driving record (both of us), no claims (ever), married, 61, etc. Insurance companies are now adding all of their climate losses on everybody. It used to be regional, but not anymore. Checked others, and seemed the same, so just paid it. Might check more thoroughly next cycle. And just got my house insurance, and similar situation (like 50% increase).

According to a report from Kelley Blue Book, the cost of the average car insurance policy in December 2023 was 20.3 percent higher than a year before, per data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This puts the average six-month policy in December 2023 at $780.28. In some urban areas it increased 40% - 50%.
KBB cited the reasons for the skyrocketing increases is big increases in cost of auto parts and increased repair costs, as the average cost to repair a vehicle after an accident has risen 36 percent due to the technologies found in a majority of vehicles today. Additional factors include the staggering expense insurance companies are experiencing to repair and writing off EVs after an accident. .
In regard to electric vehicles specifically, electric vehicles are only slightly more expensive to repair than their ICE-powered counterparts, but insurance companies are increasingly totaling EVs even if the vehicle is only slightly damaged due to concerns for battery related damage and cost to replace them.
Here in Florida auto insurance is now the highest in the nation driven by two factors. Higher accident rates as a result of oldest drivers in the nation and the record number of automobiles that were flooded after two major hurricanes.

I will say one good item for living in northern Indiana, (State Farm) six months of full coverage is $488.00, while the six months in storage is only $88.00. There is overlap on each end of Corvette driving season as I usually have full coverage on from mid April till mid November. Still less than $750, for the year on a ‘24 at age 75 with clear driving record.

I've been with USAA 31 years and my insurance is through the roof. But, when needed, their service is great!

I went through the same thing this past month when I traded my C8 for a Z06. Our auto ins went up $200/month. Had to shop around and was able to get it back down to $150/mo (for the Z06) with state farm.

For both my health insurance and my home/auto insurance, I called the agents and asked if there was something they could do. In both cases, they found ways to lower our costs without reducing coverage - in total about $1,500 combined per year. So if we didn’t ask, we would have been paying more. There are solutions but agents are busy selling new clients instead of reducing costs for existing clients. You have to ask.

I was with Progressive for almost 30 years. In those 30 years, never any tickets, claims, etc until 2021 when I actually got hurt in an accident. Needed 2 surgeries to fix everything. Long story short, when all said and done, and claim was settled, when my next insurance bill came in the mail, it doubled from $2500 to $5000 for 6 months. Insurance companies aren't loyal to anyone. If they were, I wouldn't have them try to screw me. I went to Allstate and they told me they didnt care about the accident, and actually had a lower 6 month rate than from Progressive.
