2024 Buyers, remember to cancel Onstar if it's not for you
You have to call onstar at 888-466-7827 to cancel.
Apparently, we get stuck with a $15 fee and auto-renewal after the first month if you activate when you get the car. My dealer sort of insisted on activating with Onstar as part of the deal, I was aware of the 1-month trial but not the $15 fee (for a free trial?). Auto renewal after the month, I figured on. I might do a chargeback on the $15 out of sheer spite. I really don't remember being told about that anywhere.
You have to call to cancel. We lose our built-in standalone GPS functionality due to the google services crap being required for it. AA/Carplay with a phone is still fine.
The lady I got connected to was one of the most annoying customer service people I recall dealing with, honestly ever, and that's saying a lot because I've cancelled Sirius multiple times and use Xfinity for my internet. The first thing she did was go into the corporate boilerplate about everything I'd be losing. OK, I get that. Tried repeatedly being nice and saying I just want to cancel but this person would not shut up or listen in any way, just kept reading her screen. Eventually she escalated to saying she thought it was odd I'd buy this expensive Corvette but think it's a good idea to cancel such a great service with such a small monthly fee, how much I'll regret it if the car gets stolen or I get into a bad accident. That kind of BS is what makes me hate a company, and thus here is my community reminder to all 2024 buyers to cancel before you get stuck giving a dime to these dirtbags under the auto-renewal action.
Love the car so far otherwise, but this change to google services/forced onstar sub for native GPS functionality is crap. Currently have a GMC as a daily, if they go full stupid like they are talking about and kill off AA/Carplay as a workaround, god help me I might have to buy a Toyota truck next.
My last rant, if anyone has an order they decide to abandon, do us all a favor and tell your dealer it's due to this google services subscription crap, even if it's not.

Good reminder. Sometimes I wonder if GM thinks these things through

Thankfully, I did all my setup at home and was never given the sales pitch. I said I was familiar with the offerings and would hit the button or get online if I wanted to subscribe.
With my C7, I did get a 3 month trial. They've tightened the belt so guess.

I despise Onstar primarily because in addition to their “service” it gathers intricate details of everything you and your car does and sells it. gm’s privacy policy can best be described as “we will collect and sell your private information to anyone anywhere at anytime for a buck..”

I'm so glad I got a '23 before they went to this stupid Google crap. Real good job on that one, GM.

Can I ask how Onstar “charged you”? No one at the dealer mentioned anything about “you need to call to cancel”. Onstar does not have my credit card and has already spammed me looking for me to “pick a plan”, which I have ignored.
I also apparently caused some problems because I refused to down load “the app” that tells me everything the car already tells me… dealer pinged me three times. Then on delivery day immediately following hello was “give me your phone so I can download the app” …. To which I responded “don’t have it…”. You would think I shot his dog…. He just walked away without saying a word and I never saw him again. Someone else handed me my keys and I left.
so apologies for my own rant but if I get a bill because I was supposed to cancel it. Yea….. there’s gonna be a problem….

it took me days to go through all the “Tech” in the car….
Google assistant - off
Onstar location services - off
OTA updates - off
Wireless connection - off
Wifi-Hotspot - off
I buy sports cars to disconnect, I have no desire to be connected to anyone when Im driving.
If you really want to express your annoyance send a letter to every member of the board of directors. You can get their names and address probably from gm investor relations or go to the SEC government website and their information is in any 10Q or 10K on file. That’s what I’m doing. I put a deposit on a 2023 build and got bumped the last week. No one told me they were taking the Nav out of 2024 they sold me.
But then you drive the car….. the engineering team deserves a raise. The car is so good it makes people actually try to live with gm practices and policies… which are awful.

My AMG is a 2018 and the other sports car is a 2006 BMW 330Ci six speed. Great drivers car an no connectivity. I’ve been down this road before and there are tons of great cars built between 2000 and 2018…. give or take to choose from that will be available for many years to come.
The C8 was a one off for me because it’s mid engine. Time will tell if it continues to impress and the “connectivity” remains off and far in the background or the car will be gone and I’ll be back in an older 911. I had to have a mid engine 500HP car. Just because.

Never activated mine from the dealer call in when I took delivery. They were kinda pushy about it but in the end I said no.

I have been waiting for more 2024 deliveries and comments about the god awful Google ****. OMG first start up message “log into Google to activate your Google assistant” NO…. And deleting the damn Nav… I paid $3k more for a 2024 that has $2k less equipment by deleting the in car map database.
