Default To Tint Or Not To Tint..That’s The Question!

As I wait for my C8 to arrive, I’ve been researching add ons, including tinting….I’d like to get some thoughts!! It was on my bucket list for my C7 Z06 but never did it. What do you guys generally do? Fifty% Windshield and reduce posteriorly?? All uniform?? Also….Ceramic?? Thanks…..Dr Bob

Llumar Air80 on the windshield.
Llumar CTX or IRX 30 on the doors and partition.

These are all ceramic films. The Air-series films are clear while reducing glare, UV, and solar energy (heat). I would not want a 50% film on the windshield of a car ever driven at night.

I don't do any window tinting because I like to see clearly at night. Some say there is a magic tint now that doesn't obscure the view out which I don't see how it's possible. But then I'm old school and have never liked tinting beyond factory level.

I agree...I don't want to block any light at night so I wear sunglasses during the day.

Llumar Air80 blocks 22% of the light...not what I want at night.

Get ceramic tint with the highest VLT possible. I'd say 70% on the front. If you want privacy, go darker on the sides/back, but I'd say no more than 50% if you want good nighttime visibility.

Ceramic blocks IR and UV. And those are the two things that kill your interior faster than age.

The sunvisors on my car don't do the job for me. So I got the sides, back (convertible), and a strip across the front top done. All legal.

They also offer Air90, which I had on my C7. Both are fine, but the 90 would likely be the ideal choice in non-Southern states. My tint shop here stopped carrying the 90 and only offers the 80 now.

Any input on Llumar Air vs XPEL XR Plus? Undesirable color hues? Durability? Etc?

I'm leaning towards one of these 2 for tint...

When I brought my car in for PPF and tint my installer was like why are you tinting it? He said it looks good the way it is I agreed and passed on the tint. My truck is tinted and it sucks at night!
its all good either way!

My tint guy advised I go uniform. I went with 35% all the way around. 35% on the windows only was too light for me. I’m happy with the overall shade with 35%.

I tinted the front lighter than the sides. I also tinted the window over the engine with the same as the sides. I did it all in ceramic.

I did the same:

The Xpel Prime XR Plus is a nano-ceramic tint.

I give up, why... really? Totally unneeded as far as I'm concerned. It's your call, not ours. But, you asked.

Default Not sure

I bought my C8 with 2100 miles. I know it has tint, but don't know what percentage it is. Also I don't think that the windshield is tinted or the back. I fo know that I wouldn't have gone as dark as it is. I wave to people that give me a thumbs up 👍 but they don't see me. I would hate to be a cop walking up to a dark window.

For the windshield, I would get something that does not impair visibility at night but allows for heat reduction as well as chip protection. Sides, I would do no more than 35%. Back, probably the same but I have not driven a C8 to know how much visibility is available from the factory. Also, check your state laws on what is permissible - some states do not allow windshield tinting and many have maximums on the percentage of tint on the side windows especially.

This.

There's 0 point to the Corvette wave or friendly recognition of virtually any other drivers on the road--when you've fetishized limo-tint and nobody can see anything at all. I have far more reservations about putting on low VLT tint than I do about smoking my tail lights. So unless you're planning on toking frequently, getting road head frequently, or live in Kommiefornia (and don't want the cornucopia of thieves looking inside)--I'd stick to 35%+. Probably 50%+.

p.s.
Good tint shops can probably tell you what the effective VLT is on your tint, with a light meter.
