Brand New C8 off to bad start
Hello everyone,
I have been waiting for the right time to get a C8 since the intro. Last week I noticed a few brand new cars at dealerships for sticker and spent the whole week looking a available cars until I found a Rapid Blue example in a spec that worked for me. The car was brand new, came off the truck and just made it through service and detail. As far as I know, I was the first person to even look at the car. It had 6 miles. I went ahead and bought the car. I love the car. I think GM is is amazing for bringing this to market for the masses,
BUT
I had a check engine light on day 2. OnStar said it was code P0108. Of course I am driving slow (break in period). At the advice of my dealer, I drove the car for a day to see if it would reset. The next day, the CEL went away for a few hours, but came back in the evening. Now at the advice of my dealer, it is going in tomorrow morning on a truck. I am not driving the car now. The codes provided by OnStar are P0106 and P0108.
I am admittedly new to the Corvette world, so I wanted to hear what the community thinks. How worried should I be?

Could be a simple sensor issue MAP./Barometric sensor based on the codes. Don't fret, I suspect it'll get fixed relatively easily and you'll be good to go,. Make sure the truck driver understands that you can't get the car in neutral unless running. Personally I would drive it to the dealer. Let us know how it turns out.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new ride. You should not be worried. Your car is under warranty. In the unlikely case that your issues cannot be resolved, you are protected by Lemon Law. With this said, you do miss out on drive time while in the shop...

Mostly related to emissions, should be a quick and easy fix. Happens to all makes.
OP you should be good to go very soon.
ps
I would also drive my car if it’s not very far and the CEL is not flashing.

I admit that I have never bought a new series Vette until at least the 3rd or 4th production year to give GM time to sort-out what seem to be invariable early production issues. I have to say that in the past this had proven an effective strategy... for me. Now, even given the large bias to report negative experiences here and at other forums, I have been struck by the breadth of issues and how persistent they have been to date. I, like others, feel for your plight and hope it will soon be resolved and your experience will be as most others are and have been in the past... smooth sailing and full-speed ahead.

In all my years of buying new cars I've never had a problem within the first year. Standards and people's expectations have been lowered considerably as evidenced in this thread. No wonder some sit on the fence for years trying to convince themselves they won't get a lemon. Okay times have changed but it doesn't change the fact that autos are less dependable than they once were.

Don't worry until there is something to worry about. It may turn out to be not much or nothing. Don't let it ruin the new experience. Hang in there, enjoy the buzz.

OP here: I definitely understand everyone urging me to drive the car to dealership rather than risking damage on a tow truck. However, I have a flatbed driver that has been moving around my exotics for years. He regularly handles multi-million dollar cars. I can ask him to be at my house at 9am and he will be there. No worries about who roadside assigns to the case. Also, I bough the car at a dealer an hour a away, so its going back there. There is a dealer closer to me, but so far I like the staff at my current dealer. Their service department has a Corvette focused person. This guy seems committed to getting me handled. I have had no issues getting him on the phone either. So the easiest thing for me to do is just have the car towed to them so that I can work on other things for my career. If I drive it there, they will simply send me to Enterprise Rental Car which is also not that convenient for me. I will just drive my daily sedan while they are trying to sort this out.

OP, have you tried disconnecting/reconnecting the battery?

Hope it gets fixed ASAP and you get it back fast to enjoy the ride.

MAP sensor issue. Check the wiring for loose connection (it connects on the side of the plenum as it leaves the air box).
I don't think there is anything covering intake parts that is supposed to be removed during PDI...
If that is all that is truly wrong, it's a quick and easy fix assuming they have the MAP sensor part handy.
I wouldn't bother with a wrecker/flatbed for a MAP sensor... it's not like it has mechanical tranny issue or something. It would just run too rich or lean, etc.

Congrats on your new C8 and sorry to hear about the check engine light. As others have said, your warranty is there just in case problems arise. Hopefully your dealer has a good service department and can get things cleared up fast.

OP. You have a driver that moves your exotics? Thats great. If you didn't have that I would 100% drive it to the dealer myself given the snafu you would likely face with an avg tow driver.
The map sensor could be bad and that like every other electronic part, on any device, is made up of chips and uses connections etc. so the likelihood of a defect is just as high as any other part of any complex device on earth.
Don't get down about it.
There are way bigger issues you could have had with your car like drive train related.
please let us know the disposition. Good luck.
Congrats and enjoy the car. The C8 is amazing.
