Company’s don’t sell warranty’s because they lose money on them. It’s insurance. I am waiting on a new car and I will buy the warranty when I figure out the best time to buy it. I had an ext factory warranty on my 99 Corvette. It cost me 1500.00 $. I had 2 separate uses of it totaling 1500.00$.

GM has had issues with variable valve control. My son's Yukon is in the shop now for that issue. It is maybe 3 years old with somewhere around 80k miles. Have those issues been resolved for the LT2, I don't know. I may spring for an extended warranty before the time to do so expires (I believe that is 2 yrs. 11 mos. after delivery).

I bought an extended warranty for my C7 from Dennis Fitchner. He is the other member of this forum who sells them and will beat any price you’ll get except maybe Todd at McMulkin. I paid $1500 for that warranty. One month after my B2B ran out I stopped to get some gas and the gas door wouldn’t open. I took it straight to the dealer. The actuator on the gas door had failed. That one repair almost paid for the warranty. $2k in the bank won’t cover much on the C8.
I just paid $1677 for the extended warranty for my C8 and with the mileage I put on the car it will cover it until 2030.

In all my years of owning various cars and trucks, I've never purchased an extended warranty. I am usually a hater on any type of extended warranty. But now I am buying a one year old used C8 2LT w/ Z51 mag ride, lift, etc., I am nervous about the potential issues with all of this technology. I am wondering if I'd be better off setting aside the $2,000 that the 6 year Platinum Protection Plan would cost into a savings account and use that money for the future potential break downs? $2,000 would cover a fairly large repair. I have a 2016 Stingray that has been out of warranty for almost 5 years and only had one repair that cost me $400. I definitely would not have gotten my moneys worth out of that cars extended warranty. Those that have purchased these plans in the past, are you on the winning or loosing end?

I bought the Chevy Platinum Protection Plan from Todd Sutherland at MacMulkin in June for my 2020 Z51 3LT. 84 month/56,000 miles for $1429.00. My coverage runs to June 15, 2030. (The coverage time/miles start at the time of Protection Plan purchase).

Extended warranties are like a gun. You never need it until you need it.
Both in my opinion are necessary.

I did the GMPP in July for my 21 (7 months early). I’m good until July 2031 and 108,350 miles ( I’m at just under 11k at the moment). So mine was a 96 month, 100k Platinum Plan, zero deductible, $3048. Wanted to beat the 15% price increase at the time.

That is very pricey did you get hit with a mileage penalty?

So the best time to buy the warranty is 2 months before your B2B warranty runs out?

Just got this quote from MM. My car is a 2021 that I received in mid June of that year now sitting with just under 17k miles.. so.
But I think something is off in the quote as the prices for 6 year and 7 year $100 and $250 deductible are identical, and the 6 year has a higher mileage usage than the 7.. hmmm.C8 over 12k under 3 calendar years.
Chevrolet Protection Plan Platinum
Term starts from the day you buy the plan. Mileage is added to current odometer reading.
The following terms are listed with the lowest mileage allowance per term.
5 year/50k $0 deductible $1499, $100/ded $1371, $250/ded $1269
6 year/60k $0/$1974, $100/$1776, $250/$1619
7year/56k $0/$2028, $100/$1776, $250/$1619

Greeting my fellow vette members,
Dealership charged me $2500 for 4 years 48000 miles with $100 deductible on the ZO6.
Did I paid too much? Can I cancel the warranty plan and re- negotiate?
Thanks

Call Todd Sutherland at MacMulkin and Dennis Dennis Fichtner at Laurel Chevrolet. They can tell you if you paid too much. And yes, you can cancel your current policy.

as with any warranty, it's only worthwhile if you need and use it. Overall, the data suggest that the premium(s) would be better put in the bank and used to pay repair costs during the warranty period... and use the leftover for a party when the warranty would have expired. It's a gamble; like any insurance a personal call.

This turned out to be correct. The higher mileage of the 6 year is offset by the longer term of the 7 year, so the prices are the same for $100 and $250 deductible.

I got a 100K mile extended warranty on one of my C4s. Transmission went out at 99+ miles..... warranty covered the whole thing. I don't remember how much I paid for the warranty, but it was less than the cost of a new OEM transmission. Had not bought another warranty over the next four Corvettes, but I just bought one for the C8....
