Help Me Find a Transmission Before I Die, Literally!
To make a long story short, I have a 2022 C8 HTC Rapid Blue 3LT that is currently sitting at Freeway Chevrolet in Chandler, AZ waiting for a new transmission covered by warranty. I am currently terminally ill and looking at a couple of months realistically before I go on hospice and go to bed for good. I won't get into the details but if anybody is interested; my wife started documenting my 7 year journey back in 2018 at the following link:
In any event, apparently the transmission is on back order with GM due to the recent strike and there is no timetable on when they will be produced again. I know its probably hard for many to relate; but the time I spend in my car going to doctors appointments or doing the things I still can do; gives me joy and is a welcome distraction of of what it take to make it through each day right now. I am spending the last couple of months with my family, starting a business to help support my family when I'm gone, and trying to get at least some enjoyment out of a bad situation. And I just want to have my car back before I die to get some last enjoyment out of it; but it isn't looking like that is going to happen.
I sent an email to Mary Barra on Tuesday, but have not heard back and with the holidays and not surprised. What else can be done or who else can I contact to get a solution to this issue? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: It would not take my link to wife's FB page with my story. For those interested; simply go to FB and type in "A Kidney for Leigh"

UPDATE: I received a phone call yesterday from the GM Resolution Dispute Team and they moved me to the top of the list and apparently the dealership received notification on Friday that the transmission has shipped Fedex and would be there by Monday morning 10:30; which in fact it was. After speaking with the service advisor yesterday, it was apparent that the reason they had not notified me was because they had no intention of now replacing the tranny in a timely manner. In fact, they had not even started yet, lol.
So, I was able to pull some strings and they are now planning on having the car back to me by Friday at the end of the day as long as everything goes smoothly.
I want to thank J.R. at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, NM for making all this happen. I originally purchased the car from him and decided to give him a call last week in desperation to see if he could help. He is in management and has a lot of contacts and was able to get GM to expedite things. And he used to live in AZ and knows the GM at Freeway Chevrolet as well and was able to talk to him yesterday when it was obvious that their service advisor could care less and get things expedited on this end as well.
So, I am crossing my fingers and hoping that Friday is a reality.

Contact your local TV station who will hopefully run your story? If not, post a video on youtube and/or TikTok: an open plea to GM to expedite your case given your medical condition. NTL, my prayers and best wishes for you and family.

How long has the car been laid up? File for a Buy Back through the BBB many times that escalates it enough to make things happen.

Sorry to hear you are close to hospice. This is indeed a very difficult problem. Prayers sent and I hope you can get your Corvette repaired ASAP due to the circumstances. Stay positive and may the Lord bring you peace.

did you try contacting Van? They service more C8s than any other dealer in AZ and might have more avenues to get your transmission sooner. I live very close to freeway and still go to Van for all service needs.

Sorry to hear your delema. Every day counts and I'd do what's necessary to make every day the best in your life. Buy a new car tomorrow and drive the wheels off it. When your trans come in and your current car is repaired have your heirs sell it or do whatever's needed. Really, no point in waiting for a repair at this point. If finances are an issue, I'm sure you could sell your existing car to someone who'd wait for it to be repaired and transfer the warranty. Your car still has value, and what's losing a few thou$$$ compaired to driving the wheels off a brand new one starting tomorrow or first of next week.

Very sorry to hear of your illness and its consequences. I hope you will be strong until the day you pass. As to your car, the idea above by Nick49 sounds good but from just what you wrote it doesn't sound like you're in the financial level to be able to do this (buy another car and wait for the first car to get repaired). All the good luck to you.
For those who don't know (I didn't), you don't have to be a Facebook member to read Leigh's story above. Just type into a general search, Facebook and next to it, "A Kidney For Leigh".

Thanks for the suggestion. I am waiting to hear back from my email to Mary Barra and depending on where things stand and the effort being put forth by GM; that will be my next move.

But if I start the buy back procedure, can I stop it at any time? In other words; would that possibly get them to move faster but I don't have to follow through?

Van Chevrolet is on my "do not ever do business with" list. Nothing but nightmares personally and stories from friends as well.

Making the car issue an item on the local news sounds like a good way to get some action on the car.
I would implore you to let your Wife and Daughter drive the car, with you in it. A lot of joy to be had by all.
We fight two catastrophic incurable illnesses every day with my Wife so I understand some of what you are going through.
I pray for you and your family.

My sincere wishes that whatever time you have left is filled with wonderful memories of time spent together with your friends and loved ones.
As for the car, hopefully your message to the CEO of GM will result in expediting the replacement transmission.

UPDATE: Not a peep from GM yet. No response from my email sent a week ago and sent another one this morning. I also called Chevy monday morning and created a "case" and as told they will investigate and get back to me. But yet to hear from anybody. I am going to the media/news tomorrow afternoon if still being ghosted.

Sorry for what you're going through and best wishes for your family. I know it sounds hokey but putting the problem on TV would probably be the best way to get GM's attention. They have transmissions available for production and could divert one. I would not want to share my problems on TV but you're running out of time.
