Default Have you used your extened warranty or protection plan?

There are dozen of threads about the two available "warranties". To be clear, there is the GM Platinum Protection Plan (GMPPP) and then there is the Extended Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty. (EBBW). The GMPPP can be purchased in a number of different year/mileage options with different deductibles and can be purchased any time from any GM dealer before the factory warranty expires. but the EBBW can only be purchased at the time of the sale from the selling dealer and is only available as a two year extension of the factory warranty.

My question has nothing to do with what plan did your buy? What did you pay for it? My question is simple, for those folks that purchased either warranty/protection plan, have you actually had to use your coverage for something beyond the 3 year factory warranty? What I'm looking for is the real world experience of using one of the plans.

So, please respond if you've had an actual claim against one of the plans that was beyond the standard factory coverage? How did it work out for you? Did the plan completely cover the issue? Then finally, which plan did you actually buy the GMPPP or the EBBW?

I'm hoping that any real world experiences here will begin to lift the fog of confusion over the two plans that seem to be largely confused by many folks.

I have had several claims through the GMPPP. All were handled exactly the same as B2B coverage (my plan did not have a deductible.)

Can you offer any details on the type of claim and cost of repair? Thank you.

Haven't used it on the C8 (only 6 months old), but on my GMC just used the "GMEPP" (GMC/Chevy protection plan) last week. Steering rack leaking (full replacement) and bad motor mount. About $3100 total, fully covered with no issues. Was a little surprised the dealer didn't have my contract in their system, so gave them contract # and policy# and they called it in. Took about 24 hours to get approval to proceed and all was good. No issues.

@StairStep and I were talking last night about coverage for some specific items like the HTC mechanism, dash de-lamination, and electronics (entertainment system as well as the other electronic do-dads). Anyone have any claims for these items?

On my C7 the gmepp showed up in the dealer system. i bought the same plan for my c8 and while getting my first oil change i asked the service advisor if he could see the warranty and he said it did not show it in the system. Not sure why they are no longer popping up but going to call the number on the service contract to confirm my selling dealer even activated it.

Any reason one would buy a two-year EBBW at the time of purchase v/s buying the GMPP later?

I would say you most likely have got your money’s worth from the warranty.

Not really, but there are differences. The time-of-sale bumper-to-bumper covers everything the original warranty does and is totally run through GM. The GMPP is sold and branded by GM, but administered by a third party and not quite as comprehensive in coverage. Haven't seen recent prices on the extended bumper-to-bumper, but previously it didn't seem to make sense, as long as you are aware of the differences.

Most of us are still under the factory warranty.

When I owned my C5 I bought GMPP through Ken Fichtner and after an alternator replacement and driver seat cover (bolster paint was coming off) it more than paid for itself. That convinced me to go for it again on my C8 when I get closer to three years.

Just a note, that the plan you had on the C5 was run by a different company and was slightly different than the newer plan. Don't think it is a meaningful difference for the most part(some coverages are tweaked), and both seem to be excellent, but in reference to the OP who wants to see how claims are handled, it's a totally different company making the decisions now.

I'm picking up my car on Friday after Turkey day, I very seldom keep a car for more than 5 years, I was thinking about doing the 5/60 B2B extension, doesn't seem that expensive and has to be purchased before delivery. Any thoughts?
