Oil Change turned into a transmission flud change
I woke up thinking I'd pay like $250 max for an oil change I got to the dealership, and he said I was approaching 20k miles, and while the transmission fluid is not relatively low he recommended that they change the DCT oil...I said alright.....then he had the math already in his head lol..."Sir, you might as well get a ride to work. this will take 3 hours, and it'll be about 700 for that...then we need to change your oil....and probably add a filter."
I just got a phone call...$1144.00........I used to drop the C6 Grand Sport off and pay about 215 for an oil change and car detail, lol.
What is the next "milestone mileage"....definitely put 20k on the map.

The DCT fluid change is every 45,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first. The second DCT filter change is at 22,500 miles. Is your car 3 years old and did they change the DCT filter when they changed the fluid?

Sorry but it sounds to me as if you agreed and authorized it. Yes, it's expensive and may not have been needed at this time (see RKC..post above).
If I were you, while you do have a Owners Manual or can find it for free in a PDF online for your year car, I'd suggest you look up the most recent threads on here for what is the latest (it has changed, over the years of the C8 since the 2020 model) service time, miles and what exactly needs to be done. Yes, it will take your time to figure out what key words to use to access DCT Trans, service, filter, etc. But it will give you all the info you need, and bring it right up to CY 2023. Or, you can wait for someone on this thread to treat you to their knowledge and recite it all to you. Good luck.

The DCT FILTER, on the other hand, is supposed to be changed at 22,500 miles, so if they didn't do that......
REALLY PEOPLE, read the maintenance section of your owner's manual, so you know what is supposed to be done and dealers don't fleece you with unnecessary charges.

Probably about what you would have paid for just an oil change now, too. The dealer took you for a ride (unless you car is 3 years old, but the way you phrased it that wasn't the reason)

yea it’s a 2020 and I thought I had also read 22k but when I picked it up just now he showed me the recommended maintenance was 20k….that paper didn’t look like official documentation but who am I to judge. ‘Replaced dual clutch external filter’ was like 500 by itself..

It sounds like you were coming up on 3 years getting due for a DCT fluid change anyway and the 22,500 DCT filter change was also getting close. If they did an engine oil/filter change and a DCT fluid and filter change for $1144 you didn't do too bad. I've seen a lot worse posted here.

Yep had you read the Maintenance Table (with foot notes) in the 2020 Owner's Manual you would have seen ALL DCT fluid requires changing minimum every 3 years. Have not said when you took advantage of the GM free engine oil change AND the free DCT filter. Hopefully was at 7500 +/- 500 miles as that is required to maintain DCT warranty.
For my 2020 when I read the Table knew I would not have 7000 miles end year 2, the last time the GM free service was valid.
So I took advantage of the free DCT filter change year 1 with my engine oil change @ ~3000 miles (when the majority of DCT break-in wear had occurred.) BUT knew year 3 I would reach ~8000 miles and needed to have the DCT filter changed again to maintain the DCT warranty.
So this past August I asked (and the great C8 Trained tech had agreed at the year 2 engine oil change) for all DCT fluid to be changed, the DCT filter changed again (with required DCT flush proir) and engine oil and filter changed.
PS: Hopefully this "think ahead logic" is a help for some new C8 owners.
All done on my dime for $991.

BUT, if they were under the car anyway to do the 3 year fluid change, it probably made sense to go ahead and do the filter at the same time. But they still charged way too much for the filter change.

Seems like a high price to me, but I have seen others report costs in that range.

That's 10 quarts of DCT fluid @ MSRP price ~$45/quart, the filter kit is ~$240. If you also the engine oil/filter changed the MSRP for Mobil Supercar oil is >$15/quart.
My dealer didn't charge full MSRP but some do. Combine that with 2 1/2 to 3 hours labor and IF the OP had all that done the $1144 not that bad.

By providing all materials to my dealer I had the DCT hydraulic flush 'n filter change, DCT fluid replaced and engine oil/filter replaced.. Parts and labor the whole sha-bang ran me $880. FWIW, I have had my 2020 for over 3 years.

I posted because of you're comment about "stealership." Not all dealers rip you off. Frankly charging MSRP for parts is not ripping you off, IMO. Sure you can search and buy elsewhere (and probably pay shipping) but your time and effort.
Frankly would not ask a dealer, auto repair shop to use fluid I bought. It's part of their needed profit to stay in business! Margins at dealer's today are not great! Yep happy the dealer I use provides at a discounted price, I don't ask, just what they do! Their labor rates are reasonable especially considering it's hard to find qualified mechanics!

Know you're asking the OP but my dealer charged me for GM part number 19418016, $30/quart (actually liter.) Pargon shows that part number at $42.98 MSRP. Some internet Chevy dealers show at $25 plus shipping.

What blows my mind is how basic maintenance such as oil or trans fluid changes are now astronomically expensive.

true. 10 years ago a battery was less then $100. Today. 200 or 300. And some cars require a reset of the pcm which means dealer only for a battery.
It’s more than inflation. Prices are up because there is a huge segment of folks making crazy money. That’s why the roads are packed, planes are packed cruise ships and vacation destinations are packed. We went to Italy….you would have thought they were giving stuff away so many people.
