with the mid engine setup, i estimate it will be costlier to own than a c7. early c8 buyers may find out first hand in a few years the ownership costs, and we can estimate 10 year ownerships

I would say you are correct. Well, it certainly COULD BE costlier, anyway. I am not sure that I would want to own a C8 that did not have a Factory warranty covering the DCT.

How much will it depreciate. I paid 39K for a one year old C6 in 2014 and sold it for 32K in 2022. 8 years for 7 grand is hard to beat.
Huge inflation in the last few years kept the used car market price high.
I bought my C8 new in 2023, I'm sure it won't beat the C6 for cost of ownership.
Who knows what will happen in the next eight years.
It does not matter to me, the C8 is by far the greatest car I have ever owned.

With the complexity of the DCT and all the electronic gizmos on the car, I would have to think that at sometime down the road the cost of ownership, provided things do need replacement, will be fairly expensive. Heck, the DCT alone is quite costly.

Depends how many miles driven and how hard it was driven. Some people hardly drive these things, weekend cruisers that barely do a couple thousand miles a year, so 10 years would be 20-25k miles, probably three oil changes and not much else. Only thing about the C8 is the DCT, that requires more service than past generation tranny's in Vettes.

With an all electric car, 5 cameras, sensors, solenoids, 28 modules and not many C8's with over 30,000 miles plus a DCT that costs over $20k to replace would not own a C8 without an extended warranty if planning to keep a car over the warranty period of 3 years.
cost of C8 ownership will be higher because of the Transmission Filter and requirement to flush transmission fluid at 3 years which is about $1,100.

The factory warranty for the powertrain, to include the DCT, is 6 years, 50K miles. You can purchase a GM Protection Plan (people refer to it as an "extended warranty") within the B2B warranty, 3 year 36K miles. If you don't purchase it within the allowed time you are SOL WRT purchasing a GM Protection Plan. You'll have to by a aftermarket warranty after that, big $$$$. There's no extensions of the GM Protection Plan after you purchase it.

Warranty Contacts
The two go to people for warranties on the forum are Dennis Fichtner at Laurel Chevy and Todd Sutherland at MacMulkin Chevy. If you decide to get an extended warranty, give them both a call and see what they can do
Warranties can be transferred if sold to a private party or a refund obtained on the unused portion if cancelled

…my ‘24 window sticker says 3/36 bumper to bumper, 5/60 for power train…my plan is to drive it 12K per year and enjoy it! I should know by then how reliable it will be mechanically. It’s been my experience that every car I’ve owned starts having “bell & whistle” problems around the 10 year mark…usually stuff like door locks, window motors, etc., so I expect about the same with the C8 too…I’ve got working laptops older than 10 yrs, so I think the computers will be hit or miss after 10 yrs…

Compared to any Porsche, for example, no, I don't think it will be expensive down the road. But, compared to prior gen Vettes, I think there is no question it will be pricey.....The lion's share of components on the C8 are not shared with other GM vehicles, to my recollection. So, that ensures a higher cost than in the past, and possibly difficulty acquiring parts for repairs/service....
I went with the ELW extension of the B2B warranty, which takes me out to 5 years/60k miles, bumper to bumper. After that, it's on me. I also agree with others regarding the electronics, and as mentioned, this car is full of them.
We also have a 2022 Macan GTS, that after one year has been absolutely rock solid....my C8, not so much. I have had 2 warranty issues on the C8, one of them major (a minor DCT issue, and for another, they had to pull out the entire interior to access a bad wiring harness). For the Macan, we pre-paid all scheduled maintenance for the first 5 years or 50k miles to guard against service price increases down the road....and boy do they think a lot of their cars....incredibly expensive scheduled service costs....but we went into it with our eyes wide open....No other SUV compares to it, in our opinion, so it's worth the cost to us.
Makes the C8 costs seem trivial......had to pay for my 2nd oil change on the C8 two weeks ago....$195.....please....that's one quart of oil for a Macan (joking, but only a little) :-)

Is anyone tracking extended warranty cost increases? They have to be going up proportionately with repair costs and in my book a warranty is a must and should be factored into any purchase just like sales tax for those living in a state that collects it.

The way the insurance industry makes money is by paying less for repairs than they make in premiums so the financial numbers always favor not buying an extended warranty.

I won't keep my C8 without a warranty. When the time comes I will purchase an extended warranty for peace of mind. Having gone through one transmission replacement already at 200 miles and seeing the cost, there is no way I would take that kind of financial risk.

I normally don't buy "extended warranties" (they are actually service contracts). Insurance is for when something happens that would be a life changing event if you had to pay for it out of pocket (if you could). I.e., house burns down, a major medical problem, new car totaled, etc. Otherwise you are financially better off self insuring and paying for items as they occur. The house always wins. While paying for a DCT replacement out of pocket would hurt it wouldn't change my life.
But the Chevrolet Platinum Protection Plan is so reasonable when purchased from one of the forum sponsors that I purchased one just for the peace of mind.
