Default (TRANSMISSION FAILURE) 0868 code, 2022 42,900 miles, car bucked and shutoff on highwy

Year 2022
miles: 42,900
mods: ZERO
7500 trans filter change: yes

Dealer fix for transmission leaving me stranded on I-91 highway….
>$1500 trans fluid/filter change
Car: 2022 c8 no mods
42k miles
>car restarted and drove to dealer with CEL on.

SERVICE WRITER STATES:
reading 2023 owners manual: “trans filter change due at 22,500 miles”
Ok, no problem….GM doesn’t send a letter/notification.

Called GM concierge: they will only send a letter if recalled.

2020-22 owners won’t know unless using CF, google or the dealer informs.

Called GM, they will reach out to dealer within 24-48 hours for resolution.

I’ll gladly get the fluid/filter change at 45,000 miles or 3 years as 2022 states.(which will be in 2 months on miles)

$1500 is crazy

24045729 filter kit $130
fluid/quart $28

a 5 hour job??

I knew that the second DCT filter change was required at 22,500 miles by reading my owner's manual, although one could could argue it would be 22,500 miles after the first change by the conflicting working.

Steve I remember you from way back when you were doing things with Corvettes and intro'd yourself. If you've read the long-standing changes to the manual, and woes of owners re the latest order of what needs to be done to first, to follow the changing DCT schedule, and second, get it repaired once there is an issue, you'd know that this isn't easy to keep up with. But I have to credit a lot of people on here who've done what I'd call "yeoman' work" to figure out what to do and even get the word back to someone at GM that some changes and clarity needs to be made.

With all due respect, you, and others to follow are just adding to a list of people having troubles, either with the instructions or with problems that arise with the trans. Good luck to you!!!!

Why would they send you a letter? It's been in the owner's manual since day #1... 2020-current.

The exact same chart is displayed on page 294 of the 2022 owner's manual.

With all due respect, how hard is it to follow the maintenace schedule in the owners manual? I agree with the OP that there is a modest discrepancy whether the 2nd DCT filter change is to be done at 22,500 or 30,000 miles BUT the OP missed both of these landmarks. Expecting GM to send reminders to owners about scheduled maintenance is ridiculous.

Best of luck with both your dealer and GM. I have to say, based on the chart above, a change at 22.5K miles should have been done.

Definitely worth noting:

22,500 mile filter change is ONLY 2023up.

GM did not send out a notice.

In the version of the 2022 Owners Manual that I have, it appears on pages 294 and 296 in tabular form. and on pages 295 and 297 in text form. The only ambiguity is that the table shows it at 22,500 miles, while the text says "every 22,500 miles" which could be interpreted to mean 22,500 miles after the change at 7,500 miles or 30,000. The requirement has been in every manual since 2020. The attached clips are from the 2022 manual.

Op, was the dealer able to resolve the issue? Code 0868 is set when there is an issue with Transmission Fluid Pressure, low or high, according to the Service Manual. The attempted remedies called for in the manual include what your dealer did - replace the DCT external canister filter, and replace the fluid. In fact, if those don't work, it also calls for removal and cleaning of the pan and replacement of the internal filter - per this procedure: Automatic Transmission Fluid, Fluid Pan and/or Filter Replacement. If all else fails, it eventually get to replacement of the transmission.

Ahhhhh,
miles versus kilometers

GM should have you sign an awareness agreement.

what other sub $70k car has a 22k mile trans service?

back to work.

I think you're being generous with the "modest discrepancy". I'd say it's pretty clear on what the maintenance schedule is. Unless you just left the cave and this is your very first car, maintenance charts in manuals are pretty standard.

BTW, if you need to sign an "awareness agreement" to buy a car, maybe you need to stick with Uber.

Wait Steve am I reading that correctly? It says at 22.5K to change the FILTER, only. It also says "every 22.5K thereafter" the initial 7.5K service in which they change the filter and add .5 quarts from fluid lose. I am not he sharpest tool in the shed BUT that would mean the filter needs to be changed at 30K. I am just saying . I am looking at my paperwork now. Fortunately, when they did my first service my pass axel was leaking as well as the pan. I guess the 2023 got a revised pan. I took it back when the parts came in and they changed pan, 17 bolts, 2 studs, and 12 qt of fluid. Best of luck man the details provided here are a little misleading

Yes, the requirements are conflicting in the manual. But it has been mostly "clarified" that the second DCT filter should be changed at 22,500 (15,000 miles after the first DCT filter change). I'm waiting for people with DCT filter life monitors (2023 and newer) to start chiming in about when the second DCT filter change needs to occur before I'll be 100% convinced.
