Oil and Filter Change
2020-2023 Corvette C8 Stingray/Z51
I noticed some YouTube videos about changing oil and filters aren't quite right. They miss important stuff or suggest using the wrong filters and oils. So, putting this guide for future reference (and for those who do not have a service manual with them); feel free to suggest edits or provide any additional feedback to improve this guide.
🧰 Materials Needed:
Oil: Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Engine Oil 0W-40 dexos2 or dexosR approved for 2020-2022, and 0W-40 dexosR for 2023
Mobil1 part number: 123875
GM part number: 19370233
Mobil1 DexosR Part: 126870 (for 2023 and up models)
AC Delco PF64 oil filter
GM 12695700 drain plug Gasket
GM 12695699 Drain Plug
Tools: 15 mm socket, torque wrench, oil drain pan
📝 Important Note:
Make sure the car is cold before starting.
Total Oil is 7.5 quarts.
🗂️ Steps:
Warm-up:
Start the car and let it idle for 20 seconds or until the temperature reaches +150°F.
Turn Off the Engine:
Once the warm-up check is done, turn off the vehicle/engine.
Drain the Oil:
Locate the Oil Drain Plug (15 mm) and remove it.
Allow the oil to drain completely, which may take 20-30 minutes.
Check and Replace O-Ring:
Inspect the O-Ring on the drain plug (part #12695700) and replace it if necessary.
Torque the Drain Plug:
Attach the Oil Drain Plug back in place and torque it to 25 N.m (18 ft torque).
Replace the Oil Filter:
Install the AC Delco PF64 oil filter.
Add about 1/4 quart of oil inside the filter and apply some clean oil around the gasket with your index finger.
Hand-Tighten the Oil Filter:
Install the oil filter one (1) full turn after the gasket makes contact with the sealing surface on the filter mounting flange. If installing with a torque wrench, it should be approximately 10 Nm of torque.
Add Engine Oil:
Remove the engine oil filter cap from the rear engine.
Pour in 7 quarts of Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Engine Oil 0W-40.
Check Oil Levels:
Warm up the engine to around 175°F.
Once warm, check the engine oil level (see the manual for checking).
The oil pressure should be around 27-32 psi.
If more oil is needed, turn off the engine and add oil as necessary.
Repeat the process of checking the engine oil level until it's at the desired range.

And technically, the manuals do not required the Mobil 1 brand - although they are recommended and it is what I use and will be using. And, for now, there are no other 0W-40 brands that are licensed under either spec. In the past I think there actually was a dexos2 Castrol brand but that has been delete.

I knew I had seen it somewhere before. Here is link to the tech-link article about that. The tech link article also includes a photo of I think the box label - with the 1 turn instruction on it. Someone posted that on the forum a while back too - a photo of the box with the new instruction.

Just be aware the process for the C8Z is not the same as the Stingray and I do not believe the filters are the same either. The C8Z engine has two drain plugs, one in the oil pan and the other (plastic) plug in the bottom of the plastic dry sump tank. Also the plastic dry sunp tank plug is not threaded, it comes off using a square ratchet extension, pushin up against some resistance and then a quarter turn to remove it. A detailed process is posted over on the C8Z site and over on the MECF as a sticky.
Quick lube guys and Chevy oil change guys are going to have a lot of fun messing that one up (expensive also).
There is apparently another PF 64 filter part number that is being used for the Stingray ..... I ordered another 12706595 as I've used last year, and the dealer used the year before..... when I ordered another one, using THAT part number, I received this one. I was going to send it back, but my buddy took his C8 to the dealer for his freebie oil and filter change and they, ( the dealer) used this same new part number, 25206377.... same One that I had just received.
The 2024 Owners Manual still lists 12706595 as the part number for PF64. However, one of the on-line parts suppliers, GM Parts Giant lists 25206377 the part number that replaces 12640445, 12696048, 12683286, 12706595.
Thanks....... guess I'm safe using it then. Besides, like I said above, my buddy just had his C8 done at a Chevy dealer, and this new one is the P/N they used.

The model # PF64 is what matters, regardless of what new number GM has assigned. You are good to go
Idk….How is this different then any other other oil change? Seems pretty standard to me.
It is different than other oil changes because of the sump. You have to start the engine to move the oil out of the sump and then get it up to temp to properly check its level. The procedure my son and I used for my '22 Z51 HTC was to drain the oil for about 15 minutes [good to the last drop] and then add 7 qts of oil. I drove home and the next morning brought the oil up to temp, checked the level and added 1/2 qt. Worked out nicely
