Default How important is Magnetic Selective Ride Control Opinions

I saw a 23 used C8 1LT at MM with 2,800 miles on it used, It is an exact C8 with all the options and extras that I want to order. BUT it does not have the MSRC. I have read some threads here that for a better ride you should have it otherwise it could be a stiff ride. I have an order in with my local dealer but am still waiting on an allocation to come up. I would have jumped at this but I know for a better ride I should have it. I've waited 67 years so far so 6-9 months shouldn't bother me at this point. What are your opinions? Thanks

If you never had it, you wont miss having it.

If you have had it, you would already know the answer.

On a non-Z51 the ride will be fine without MSRC other than bad roads. But you won't be able to stiffen up the suspension for spirited driving.

On a Z51 it allows you to soften the ride similar to a non-Z51.

It's nice, though it's not necessary. My c7 didn't have it, I got it on my c8 and was surprised how much I couldn't feel much difference. I do like it for peace of mind, I feel like when it's on soft it's better with bumpy/pot hole roads, though I'm not sure if that's real or just in my head.

I drove a 2008 c6 z51 which didn’t have mrc shocks for 143k miles and it was great!

I ordered the c8 z51 with mrc shocks and I love it but would I have chosen to buy the car you are looking at? Yes

mrc is great but not a deal killer on an immediate purchase.

good luck deciding what’s best for you

Love Mag Ride on my non Z51 C8. Use Tour going over rougher surfaces, Z mode with suspension set to Sport most of the time and switch to Track when taking 90° turns aggressively. Fun. The difference between modes is very noticeable.

Plus it's always working to make the ride more compliant.

Mag Ride adds a whole dimension and experience to driving the vehicle.

IMO the overall benefits and improvement are exaggerated, perhaps at tracks like Laguna Seca or Nurburgring, I wouldn't know since I have never driven at those levels of high speeds, it might make a difference, but it will not under average or spirited driving. Two out of my last three C7s had Mag Ride and I could not tell the difference from the one that didn't. No different than the Mustang Bullitt with Mag Ride I presently drive to other similar models I've had and can't tell the difference.

There is a question Corvette enthusiasts should ask themselves about perceptions. Do you think that the Corvette is not a sports car or doesn't qualify as a true sports car unless the Corvette has the manufacturer's performance and handling options? How about a $100K 3LT without those options, is it chicken feed?

I agree with everything in this comment, and "compliant" doesn't necessarily mean softer, but not only does it give you the mode you ask for, it adjusts many times per second all along the way to keep your car planted on the road.

I find the difference between modes very noticeable with Mag Ride and handy to have--not to mention fun. It makes the car more engaging and is very functional on our less-than perfect New England roads!

A buddy and I rented a 2023 3LT Z51 with FE4 from Turo. We both spent a full day driving it then after returning the car we met to compare notes. We both owned C6 1LT Z51 cars in the past which were obviously not equipped with magride. He also has a Lotus Exige which is a pretty rough riding car whereas I switch to an AMG for a while so that’s our frame of reference for this review.

We both felt that magride made a substantial difference in the way the car rides/behaves. In tour mode we noted that it was silky smooth on rough surfaces (way more comfortable than my Mercedes AMG for instance but also than our C6 cars as well). In particular, I specifically sought out the worst brick roads in the area to drive over and can say with confidence that few cars ride better than this Corvette, certainly none of mine ever have).

Switching to track mode we both noted that the car felt tighter in the corners and much rougher on the road. It’s very immediate. You feel it the moment you turn the **** to track. Suddenly there are all these small bumps on the road that you previously couldn’t feel. Unfortunately, the rental rules prevented us from taking it to an Auto-X or race track to really test track mode but in testing on some curvy empty roads it felt more poised when pushed.

Given that we reached these identical conclusions independently of each other we have both elected to order cars equipped with magride. We agree that it’s a must have feature.

If you haven’t already, take the one without mag ride for a test drive and see how it feels to you. Would be great if you could drive an example of one with mag ride right after that, but that may be asking a lot.

I decided not to get the Z51 package so I wanted Mag Ride to tighten the car up a bit for twisty roads. My wife - not a car gal at all - noticed immediately when I took it out of My Mode and put it in Tour Mode. That told me that I did the right thing.

I have no idea what the skill level of any of the members who posted on this thread (and while I was recruited many times to go pro when I was younger and have taught countless drivers over the years) and age has certainly robbed me of a great deal of my skill (though I was told recently that some track youngsters commented that old man can make a car dance) and while I probably would have spec'd a C8 with mag ride, the used one I bought does not have it. It rides better than any other sports car I've ever owned (or any of the ones I own now) and while I cannot comment on track use, on the street (even in track mode with the nannies as off as they can be) I think the car is very good and see no need for mag ride. Keep in mind everyone's opinions are based on their own skill level, their past experience, and the cars they have owned in their lives.

Ever driven any other vehicles in your life that didn't have it and didn't need it?

My SRT jeep has magnetic ride and it’s a huge difference when you spin that ****. And they are very expensive to replace.

I test drove a couple of C8s without magride and one with it. The test drive with it was all I needed to confirm that I was only going to look for cars with it.

Those who are saying there is no difference must not be talking about C8s or they have a very different way of interpreting a smooth ride.

If it didn't matter it wouldn't be so popular. Z51 owners C7 or C8 want it and stand by it

I would wait for a car with the mag-ride. My C7 didn't have it, but I made sure my C8 did. Much better ride on the interstate and around town w/ mag-ride.

Before my 2023 C8 I had a 2019 GT350 with Mag Ride. Before it I had a 2016 GT350 without Mag Ride. To be perfectly honest, i could not tell the difference. Perhaps if you track the car or drive a lot on rough roads you could tell. When i got the oppt to buy a dealer order 23 2LT Z51 with every option I wanted I jumped on it. I haven't regretted my decision one bit.
