Big Day at Indy 500
For those who missed it, a C8 Z06 paced and Chevy crossed the finish line 1st! As I watched I pondered. From time to time we get guys here busting on his other brand car as better yada yada yada. What I pondered is at Indy, where is Ferrari, Porche, Mercedes, Lotus, Toyota, Ford, Dodge, etc? I understand it is a $$$$ thing but we hear all the standard rips on Chevy yet only 2 brands choose to compete. We know what a great feat it is to build a Corvette at the price point GM it does. Maybe, just maybe the experience they gain at Indy pays off in Corvettes design and ability to keep it reasonable. I would guess on Tuesday, there will be an uptick on people wanting Corvettes. What wins on Sunday sells on Monday. Clearly Porsche, Mercedes, Lotus and Ferrari could afford to compete at Indy. When a guy with those brands rips on you about Chevy, ask how his brand did at Indy this year!

Interesting......400k people attend Indy, makes it one of biggest sporting events in the world. F1 draws an average attendance of 35k per event.....less than most MLB games. Even LeMans draws less than Indy at around 275k. One could say F1 is attended mostly by a handful of Europeans.

2020 C6 of the Year Winner - Modified
Nobody, except a handful of Americans, cares about Indy, hence why none of the big names compete. It'll also have zero impact on Corvette sales.

Gets a handful of GM execs primo seating for supplying the cars though. And you are right. Indy 500 is yesterday's newspaper for sale today.

I meant this to be a fun post as this is supposed to be a Corvette forum. It looks like the high brow Bif mentality is in play though.though.It can't be good with a Chevy logo on it.....lol. for those with that mentality....sell the Vette and get another Bimmer. I will have fun smoking you in my gold bow tie, or buy some Porsche logos and glue them on your Vette...it will be better then!

Pacing the Indy 500 is a great form of advertising for an auto manufacturer in my opinion. It is also my opinion that, no race show cases a pace car better than Indy.
I have been a motorsports fan since I was a kid in the 60s. I appreciate all types of motorsports, just how I appreciate all types of cars and car brands. I watch most any motorsports on television and have been to many types of racing events My favorite race is the Indy 500 followed by the 24 Hours Of LeMans.
Most types of racing have changed throughout the years. Years ago there were small private teams in most forms of racing. That is extremely rare now. In my opinion, that has taken the excitement and individuality out of racing. The balance of power has also taken much of the innovation our of racing. While I still enjoy racing, I don't enjoy it as much as I once did.

The IndyCar series has always been a "little different." For the last couple of decades the series has only allowed two engine choices, and all use the same Dallara chassis. For quite some time, the choices have Chevrolet or Honda engines.
The idea underlying this concept is obviously leveling the field and controlling costs.
