Default Broken drivers side window

So someone decided to break into my car thinking whatever valuable they can find. Suffice to say there was nothing in there other than my radar detector which they didnt take. I was parked at my work parking lot
I just got a quote from Safelite for $500+tax .. does this seem reasonable for the drivers side door? I dont want to claim this on my insurance since my deductible is $500. Also there are couple of small scratches from I guess the window falling... any fix/touch up suggestions.

I agree with this.
We have zero deductible on glass. I thought this was commonplace?
I'd advise checking your policy.
Regardless, schedule it to be fixed.
Cameras in garage?

It sounds reasonable as a few months ago I paid $450 to Safelite for the front passenger side window on my F-150 (factory glass and not a cheaper replacement) when flying debris broke it.

If your scratches are only in the clear, you can try a light hand polish. Get a foam applicator and some polish or compound. Something like meguiars ultimate polish / compound can be sourced from local autoparts stores. Put a few pea sized dots on your applicator and buff / rub the scratches. Wipe off excess polish gently with a clean microfiber and inspect. Repeat if needed. Re-apply your wax or w/e paint protection you use.

If they're deeper and paint is removed, you'll need touch up. Something like Dr. colorchip. If they're bad, consulting a body shop might be best .

Man people suck. If that happened to me the would be thief (aka idiot) better pray I dont catch them.

Might've been done out of jealousy or spite too. Theres a certain sect of the population that thinks vandalizing "gas guzzlers" is altruistic somehow. Even though the C8 is far from a gas guzzler, but the ignorancia don't bother with details.

Sorry about your car OP. I hope you catch the jerk via surveillance footage, although I doubt it.

Sorry to hear. $500 sounds reasonable. I agree with checking your insurance because in some states, glass replacement is a $0 deductible. I would also recommend filing a police report if anything for the sake of notifying authorities and others in the area of the break in problem.

Keep in mind this is theft / vandalism thus the claim falls under "other than collision" or comprehensive coverage. Claims under this coverage, while subject to the deductible, are non-chargeable claims and should not be used to increase premium. If the damage is more than your deductible, and you can confirm its non-chargeable with your insurer, why not file a claim?

Yes agree with above- the glass is usually comprehensive and not subject to deductible- Also is not a charge back in future premiums and usually safelite etc does the paperwork. Make sure to get OEM gm glass though I doubt theres a clone yert

Looks like you'll have to pay to have it tinted, too?

The price sounds reasonable - nothing is inexpensive any more. Sorry you had this happen to your car and best of luck getting it fixed.

Beautiful car BTW.

Thank you all for the support comments.
Yes I am checking with my insurance agent if this is zero deductible.
Yes its a "blue" city, Austin. There were no cameras in the garage. I also filed a police report.. there were couple of other breakins previously a couple of weeks back. we have a nasty homeless problem and the defund the police crowd.
Yes Ill need to pay for the tint as well (will need to check if it might be covered by insurance)

Yeah Austin has gone downhill fast, its a shame. We used to come up often from Boerne but not so much anymore, and when we do I drive the DD not the vette. Wouldnt take my C8 anywhere near Austin these days.

The Comedy Mothership has given me an excuse to come more often though so hopefully the city doesnt continue its downward trajectory.

Getting a genuine GM replacement may be the real issue, not the cost. Best of luck with it.

I'm curious why the window fell out of the car rather than into it. Is there a new technique for trying to force the window open?
