2023 rear trunk lock cylinder
I know there have been a few threads sharing ideas on how to route and pull the emergency trunk release as to eliminate the issue of having to drill a hole in the trunk lid however I thought I should start a new one using OEM parts that are used in earlier model years. The part actually comes with both the door lock and the trunk lock keyed alike. Prices at about $230.
I just received them and will document the trunk installation.
OEM Emergency lock cylinder kit.

I did it, pretty straightforward job. I made the support plate from a piece of 3/16 mild steel. I also swapped out the door cylinder so that I had matching cylinders/keys, this was a bit of a pain. Turned out great, you’ll be happy with the results.

There's no need for access if the battery is dead unless you have several gallons of ice cream in the trunk. If the battery is dead, there's nothing in the trunk that you would access to remedy that problem.

I've done this on my 2023 C8 and it's pretty simple. I don't have to worry about the latch failing now.

My understanding is that if the electrical solenoid for the trunk lid fails, for whatever reason, there's no way to open the trunk. A dead battery issue is just one subset of the overall problem.

My understanding is that if the electrical solenoid for the trunk lid fails, for whatever reason, there's no way to open the trunk....forever. Do electrical solenoids fail? My C6 has an electrical solenoid operated vacuum switch to operate the NPP exhaust butterfly valves. I'm on my third electrical solenoid. The original factory solenoid failed, the dealer installed warranty replacement failed, the now operating third one I installed myself.

@ChiTownVetteTech , a Corvette tech, has posted there is a way to get into the trunk without cutting a hole in but didn't say how, perhaps because GM doesn't want it circulated how to break into the trunk.

It is unfortunate that we have to pay for a dumb cost savings idea. Did I say dumb, I should have said stupid.
I am going to try to find a way to make an extension for the cable manual pull, drill a small hole at the bottom of the trunk,
so I can put a pull handle under the car.

I came up with this fix if anyone is interested. Cheap and effective.
