Wheel Rub
Hey everyone,
I've had my 22 Z51 for about a week and a half now, and noticed something that seems a little odd to me. When turning left or right full at low speeds (in a parking lot, or making a U-turn for example) I feel what I think are the front wheels rubbing on the wheel well. Is this normal or is something else going on? It reminds me of when years ago when I had my Mustang Cobra with larger width wheels and tires the front would "sometimes" rub the plastic sheathing on the wheel well. Can't seem to pinpoint this exactly by driving feel, so I wanted to ask here.
Thank you in advance
John from the DC Metro.

Appears that both wheels and tires are stock so there should be zero rub. My thought is perhaps the inner wheel well shrouds are out of place/alignment. Just a thought.

Likely you are experiencing tire scrubbing due to wide tires and high steering angle at low speeds. It is completely normal and nothing is rubbing but you feel the tire and the ground fighting each other. Many Porsche dealerships have a write up about this on their website and also advise their customers about it at the time of purchase. Chevrolet sales staff don't have as many models that can exhibit this phenomena so it isn't a focal point for them to learn about.

One of the first things I check on all new cars I buy is to make sure they have the correct Ackermann steering setup.
It's really odd, since they all seem to do it unless they have really narrow wheels. Huh, wonder why?

Do you have summer tires on? If so, if it is cool out and they are not warm you will get a feel like the tires are hopping or rubbing.
I have never experienced anything wrong with steering on any car I have ever owned because of the Ackermann effect.
With the exception of 4wd with 4wd engaged and turning especially at slower speeds, note not talking about AWD.

The scrubbing is due to the fact that pure Ackermann steering geometry isn't used. While pure Ackermann would prevent the scrubbing at low speeds it isn't optimal for high speed cornering where tire slip angle comes into play.

The "issue" with the Corvette isn't "Ackermann steering geometry," it's lack of Ackermann. It's a trade off between parking lot speeds and high speeds. Which would people rather GM optimize the Corvette steering for?

It’s no big deal but at all.
I ran non run flats on prior models and it does improve this issue. Also a smoother ride.
