Default C8 waitlist Canada 4+ years Any advice on C8 alternatives?

In January 2022 I put a deposit on a C8. Dealership said they might be able to get a C8 in a couple of years. I sold my factory mint Corvette in anticipation of a new C8. (a decision that I now regret) On the 1st anniversary of my order a couple of weeks ago I stopped by the dealership to see where we were at with the C8 order. They indicated that they were anticipating at least another 4 years before I see the C8 ???????.

I stopped into a few other Chevrolet dealers in surrounding cities and got essentially the same answer. The salesman I was dealing with says the GM rep avoids the Murray GM Corvette sales specialist when he comes in.

Yes I am feeling more than a little frustrated after the above discussions. (this maybe my "therapy" post :-) )

Given that Stingray production will be dropping over the coming years as Z-06, E-ray and other higher margin variants roll down the Bowling Green production line I am beginning to look at the end dates of the C8 production run and wondering if it will ever be possible to get a new C8 in Canada at this time.

Given the above a new C8 now seems to be a non starter so I am now considering a different performance vehicle. I would like to get some feedback on what would you folks would buy (in the same price range) if you couldn't get a new C8.

"Interestingly" enough GM not only lists Stingrays but Z06s on the Chevrolet.ca site. I am at a bit of a loss to understand why GM lists and lets you "build" cars that you can never actually buy.

At the same time I did stop by the local Honda dealer across the street from Murray GM to see the used C8 they had on display......

No suggestions for an alternative as I didn’t look for any. As for the “used’ C8, it is a C8R edition, and slightly rare and highly inflated even state side. So not a good gauge of used C8 prices.

Can you buy in the US and take back to Canada? There are cars on lots, depending on what you want.

Thanks for comment. Checked into that Unfortunately GM will not let a USA dealer sell any new GM car to someone with a non US address.

Buy a used one in Washington and import it into Canada. Easy process although you will likely need to pay GST/HST as well as get it inspected. Check on the RIV website: https://www.riv.ca/Home.aspx

There are plenty of used C8s for sale in the US, if that's an option for you.

Yes buy one down here and bring it back home. We shouldn't complain about the wait time in the US

Hi FORMULAWA:

I would suggest speaking with a few dealers in the Lower Mainland, and ask to be put on their "list" for cars that are not delivered.

Before Christmas, I traded some messages with a sales rep at Dueck's about one of the cars shown on Chevrolet's website as in transit, and of course, was told that it was sold. Told him to keep me informed about others that may come available. Over the next few weeks, he pinged me about a used Stingray, and a used ZL1, which i was not interested in. Then, out of the blue in early January, he pinged me on Facebook, and said there was a car that was ordered, and the guy was not able to take delivery. I happened to be leaving work walking to my office, Called him to discuss the trim level(which turned out to be how I would have ordered it), and a HTC, also at MSRP. He said first person there to place a deposit gets it. I was there in 15 mins, and gave the deposit, as others arrived.

Don't give up hope, just take some time to speak to as many dealers as you can.

BTW - as i have been watching the listings for used cars, i do see that Murray (and for what it's worth - every other dealer in the Chilliwack area) is way over-inflated on every car that would be considered special interest.

Keep Looking!

Rob

Thanks for info!

Out here if someone does not take delivery they contact the next person on the list and since I am so far back it's unlikely they will get that far up the list anytime soon. I will check with Dueck and see how they manage turn downs

Hey OP. Importing from USA will be a lot of hassle. And our cars are cheaper in Canada believe it or not. It’s probably 5-8% cheaper at 1.30-1.35 usd rate.

I placed my deposit with Wilson Niblett in Ontario about 16 months ago and I’m expecting my car soon. Probably 1.5 year in total. There are also big dealers in the Toronto area that can get it much sooner than 4 years which is ridiculous. Try the Canadian corvette forums.

Are barely used mint Canadian C8's not an option for you? Some may have bought just to resell. I'm sure you'll find some C8's listed in your local Corvette market.

Buy something from the USA with low mileage and import it into Canada. I just dont think you're allowed to import the current year, 2023.

If you buy from one of the top three dealers in Canada you should be able to get one in two years or a bit less. I bought my 2020 from Wilson Niblett in Toronto and got it in 14 months. I've also got a 2023 on order and I'm looking to get it in the next couple months so again about 15 months.

The only other alternative is to pay over MSRP for a used one. There are many for sale in the Toronto area.

As someone that has owned 484 cars I can give you some suggestions though not knowing much about the type driver you are, your price range, and whether you willing to go with a used car makes it harder but I have owned (or now own’ some of these cars. The AMG GTS coupe (German. Muscle car) the Lotus Evora GT or 400 or the new Emira. If you want a hard core drivers car the Alfa 4C (I have a coupe was looking for a spider when it found the used C8 I bought) the 718 cayman GTS (the 718 gas powered cars are done the next cayman will be an EV) the F type R (I got rid of mine after 800 miles but lots of people like them. I have owned all of the above except the Emira (I am on the top of the list) and while none of them can check all the same boxes they are all engaging in one way or another. I have. It listed used cars like the360/430 because they tend to be expensive to maintain and finding good examples can be difficult. Good luck

The OP is located on the West Coast - shipping from the GTA will be approx $5-6K in a closed trailer. My experience locally is that dealers have been instructed to not accept "reservations", and certainly no deposits or orders. That may change as supply catches up to the demand.

Importing from the U.S. is not a great option either, as we get killed with the exchange rate - great for U.S. buyers importing from Canada.

Befriend a local dealer and stay on their case.....

@formulaWA
I just checked AT and see 73 C8's (2020-2023) for sale locally here... There is no chance these are selling over MSRP... if a used C8 works for you, just order one from here and have it trucked over to you.

GL!

They dont seem to be cheaper in the lower mainland of BC on autotrader.ca. Lowest one I saw was a private sale 2020 3LT just under 120k CAD. All the other 3LTs are over 130+

Ontario/Quebec cars are always cheaper but people in BC rarely buy them.

I would gladly drive my 2023 3LT Stingray to BC and sell it for 120-150k CAD when my Eray shows up . Seems the Stingray will be more rare in Canada for longer anyway.

To the OP: send me a PM for advice on where to buy a C8 at MSRP in Canada far sooner than 3-4 years. I see Murray Chev is in Winnipeg so assume you're in Manitoba.

Ahh ok. I just saw the screenshots he sent that showed an email address ….murraygmabbotsford.com and presumed he was in the lower mainland.

This was in the context of buying at MSRP from a dealership. If you build and spec the same car on chevy.ca vs chevy.com, you will see that the USA version is more expensive!
