Navy Federal and Penfed have had the best rates I have seen. So I think you already found one of the best. Im not sure if there is an industry wide limit on credit card purchases but I have found that 10k has been the limit on several car purchases for me. It makes good points on a credit card of your choice.

If you are getting 20%+ return on your money for example. I would leave it there and finance the car for the remaining amount that is left over.......but this is something you would want to talk to a financial advisor about. Good luck on your purchase.

One of my credit unions just sent me a rate special they’re running of 4.7% for up to 84 months…it’s a refinance rate or new car rate…

PenFed has always had (mostly) competitive rates, but it gives the dealership something to beat. If memory serves, non-DoD folks can join simply by putting $5 into an account (I also seem to recall having to make a small donation to one of the services... $10?... but it seems they may have removed that requirement). I haven' taken out a loan in quite some time, but I keep the account around just in case I need some good rates for shopping around. Here are their current rates:

Unfortunately, they apparently have strict membership requirements.

The last time I checked (end of last year), PenFed will let anyone join.

…that doesn’t sound like them…they were originally attached to Robins AFB, but opened up membership to everyone years ago. Here’s what their website says you need now to join:

Maybe it's because I don't live in the area, but they stated unless I had family that was a member they couldn't approve membership.

I just got approved for 5.49% for 60 months through Bank of America. But I got the .5% discount for being platinum honors with them.

Doubt the dealer will be able to beat that.
