I have a deposit down and ready at a dealer, but I want a 2024.
Dealer said they would just hold my place until I am ready to order spot.
Do I put an order in on Jan.1 , Feb. 1 , March 1 or when so it gets moved to a 2024 ? My thinking is I get one of the first 2024 that come out. Maybe a new color, like a green one.
Suggests on how to accomplish this please.
Or do I have to wait till the 2024 come out and then order.

Until GM announces when the MY cutover will be we won’t know when the first MY 24 DOSP (order cycle) wI’ll be. Could be as late as next summer…. Is that the only reason you want a 24, possible new color and a price hike or two?

You can't place an order for a 2024 until the order book for 2024 opens. When that happens is not known at this time. If you really want a 2024, just keep passing up 2023 allocations until a 2024 ca be ordered.

I think 2022 to 2023 switchover was late March. Rumor is 2023 will go longer, to sell as many 70th anniversary as possible. So be prepared to wait and have your build get a few thousand more expensive.

Just tell your dealer that you want to wait for a 2024. If an allocation comes along for a 2023 have them skip you and give it to the next person on the list. As soon as they have an allocation for a 2024 have them place your order.
The time between matching an allocation to an order (status 2000) and going into production isn't that long.

You want a 2024 only for hope of a new color? Sorry, sounds crazy.

Different strokes for different folks. I placed my deposit in May 2020 while MacMulkin was adding customers to their MY 2021 list. I asked to be put on a MY 2022 list and they were happy to do so. The reason I wanted a 2022 was my hope that adaptive cruise control would be offered. It wasn't, but I was able to order the new for 2022 Aero Delete option where the spoiler and splitter were left off of my Z51 HTC. I am glad I waited and am happy with my car and choices.

I had a 22 allocation come up in March but I was like let me wait to see what the 23 will bring so I waited. I'm so glad I did because I got the stealth interior, Black exhaust tips and a way better wheel option in the 20 spokes instead of those 5spoke that I could not stand. Even though I'm still going to buy new wheels, I could not stand to ride around on those silver 5 spokes for even a couple of months.

We don’t know yet what changes will come with 2024. Maybe it is just colors, maybe it is other things such as adaptive cruise control (although doesn’t sound like it). Unfortunately, you may not know what changes are coming before you have to make your decision on a ‘23 or wait til ‘24. Would hate to pass on the ‘23, then not have a better color/feature option on the ‘24 but have to pay the price increases.

Doesn’t sound crazy to me.
I was on the verge and was fortunate to roll over into a 23. If nothing else for the Black Exhaust Tips.
Someone with the same predicament with 20/21 would have gotten the upgraded version of CarPlay in the latter model year.
OP - you’re fortunate if your dealer let’s you do that. My dealer was more strict and said you have to take your allocation or go to the back of the line.
Enjoy your new car. Hope you get the color you want (but I would bet against it)

You may want to wait to see what 2024 brings if you're not concerned with price increases...
Thankfully, in 2023 they added the stealth interior and black exhaust tip options which I really wanted...Also having the new oil filter life percent indicator is a nice feature to have as well...
