Ok I'm Scheduled to argue my case with my HOA about my Bridjit curb ramp soon. There is no prohibition for them but anyone familiar with HOA's knows that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Does anyone have any advice or input that might help with my argument. My community is in Arizona.

If theres nothing in the bylaws that doesn't disallow it then ask them how it can be made acceptable and still allow you to easily get in your driveway straight on. If they wont compromise on anything then call their bluff about enforcement and threaten to erect a HAM radio tower on your lawn. The FCC will penalize them heavily by not allowing you to do so. "Unsightly" brijit or HAM radio tower, their choice.

Normally you can't put anything in the common areas that is not authorized. Maybe they would authorize it if you agree to paint and maintain it with a color to match the concrete. I can see how someone would say it is unsightly as is, but blending it in might work. Also, explain the damage to you car from the curb since they may think it is just a convenience item. Throw ideas at them to see if you can get a compromise.

I am not sure about the laws governing HAM towers but this is a good strategy. Case in point, a local entrepreneur in my area was challenged some years ago by a retirement community across the road from his land when he was trying to get the zoning changed on his side of the road from agricultural to commercial for his business. Guy's brother told me that some of the residents were really making a stink about it at the zoning meeting until the guy said fine, we'll leave it agricultural and I'll raise a 100 head of hog on my land. Folks decided real quick that a medical business across the road would be better than the flies and smell that would come with the animals.

Do you really need the Bridjit? How's the clearance if you enter at an angle? Is the battle really worth fighting?

That driveway is not steep. He needs to angle it like me now up my driveway. I take it up at a almost a perpendicular angle and turn the wheel and I make it up just fine.


PS. I did crack my CF lip when I took it almost direct like he does

Total non-issue. Just learn to drive a low car. What do you do when you encounter a speed bump, call your wife to bring your Bridjit ramps to the mall? If you take that at a sharp angle, you'll be fine.

I've declined to buy a home because this type of curbing was used in the neighborhood. Obviously hostile climate for nice cars

As a car guy, I'm all for functional inventions. It does stand out though. Maybe Bridjit has some ideas or helpful reference material.

Aside from the HOA decision, have you tried backing over the curb?

I wish you good luck but it all depends on the individuals on the board. I lived in a relatively upscale neighborhood and the CCNRs allowed RVs as long as 'screened'. For seven years, it was a non-issue as I had it parked behind the 6' cedar fence. Then a new board came in and they decided that the definition of screening meant inside a covered garage. There were only three of us in the entire neighborhood that had RVs and all of us ended up moving because of this. We all fought and they were prepared to spend $$ with lawyers to fight. It was a gamble because the CCNRs never defined what screening meant so it was open. I approached the board in a calm, partnering manner and the other two homeowners were very adversarial but it didn't matter as the board didn't want to allow period. Don't get emotional and painting a gray to closely match the concrete would also be helpful as currently it could be described by others as unsightly. Good luck

As I have one and no problems with the HOA I can not provide much assistance but hope you get it approved! Those that say learn to drive and or paint it don't completely understand. As I have one yet I know how to drive but when you have multiple vehicles in the driveway you can not always "Just angle it" to keep from scrapping etc. With the C8 lowered and going in and out with the most angle possible with cars in the drive it works perfect. Without it I would scrub every time. My air bagged car I do not even have to worry with raising it up with the ramp as I can angle it and go right into the driveway.
Painting this rubber of material that is pretty smooth that will get weathered sun etc I think will look worse as nothing is going to stick hold up well. It would have to be in the pigment of rubber.

Wishing you the best with this and make sure to note it has a channel under it to still allow water to flow if that is of any concern to them.

As the two posts above suggested, angle approach and try backing in.

In our hood guy has some Italian car, has a piece of wood he uses to get into a curb worse then yours.

Puts the wood out when leaving, picks it up when he comes home.

Small pia but simple solution.

The side view of the concrete step up makes look as high as some street curbs. Is it even legal to be that steep? Does the existing entrance comply with code?

Looks to me like the Bridjit is installed on a city street, not on your property. Don't know that an HOA has control over the street.
