Sorry if this has been discussed, but C8 owners should know about this post on another forum. Your driving habits can be tracked!

It is all part of CONTROLLING THE POPULATION. Information is their weapon. But wait there’s more.
”BIDEN-APPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE BILL: MANDATED KILL SWITCHES COMING TO CARS BY 2026”
https://www.musclecarsandtrucks.com/...l-switch-2026/
the goal is complete control over your money, your thoughts and your movement. I expect the cars of the future to just bill you every time you break any traffic laws and turn themselves off if you don’t pay. If you post something deemed ‘subversive’ you will get locked in your car and wait for the secret police to arrive.
One upside is that sensors in the seats will tell if you are too fat and they won’t allow you to drive to Dairy Queen, so we have that to look forward to.

Privacy is lost.
Love your phone (love on-star), don't you LOL.
I could imagine the speculative analysis of all our CF postings.
FWIW The only benefit of OS I personally thought was the ability to have them unlock Vette doors.
Perhaps stolen car tracking would be valuable too.
Oh well, informative link from the OP.

Judging from the odometer readings I see on most used Corvettes, following the Smart Driver “events” must be pretty “uneventful”. Although I could see some usefulness to the analysis of the data: “Drivers seem to enjoy rapid acceleration on on-ramps”.

The only issue with this "smart driver" business is insurance companies and credit bureaus can access the information. And some folks with new C8s that have the mandatory OnStar service are some how opted in and enrolled in the "smart driver" option without their knowledge. They have to open the Chevy app or OnStar app and "Unenroll". You do that by opening the MyChevy app and clicking the three dot menu to see if you are enrolled or not.
Here is a typical complaint of the C8 owners:
"I never activated OnStar last year when I picked up the car.
The OnStar app continues to run in the background, no matter how many times you kill it.
The only way to possibly stop is to remove location permission for this app and uneroll from Smart Driver, which I never signed up for in the first place!"
Don't kid yourselves. Insurance companies can request driver information from this program even if you have not given them permission. Based on "probable cause". And that is broad broad range category. And I'm not paranoid.

Given the way my wife drives her C8, I WISH our insurance company would accept the "Smart Driver" program and provide a discount. He scores are above 95. Our insurance company, Nationwide, does not accept or look at data from that program. I asked, and they only use their own devices. As far as I can tell, very few insurance companies accept or have access to data from "Smart Driver."
Seems to me this a whole lot of concern about nothing. If you are concerned, you should dump your cell phone in a lake somewhere and go totally off-grid. You shouldn't be posting things on the internet either.

Smart driver doesn't get the information from the phone, the phone just lets you look at the information that is always going to be there. To my knowledge, no insurance company is going to get the information without your consent, probably cause applies to law enforcement not insurance companies. The way insurance companies get that information is by giving you, with your permission, a device to plug into your OBD.

After searching through My Account, I found a phone number that you can use to cancel Chevrolet Connected Access. Call 1-888-466-7827. See below for the "services" that you're automatically enrolled in when you purchase your vehicle. I took delivery of my C8 in August 2021. My Account tells me that my enrollment will last until August 2031. I'll be calling the 888 number today to cancel my enrollment.

I just looked up this info on Onstar's website:
How does OnStar protect Members’ personally identifiable information from being shared?OnStar takes the security of its Members’ data very seriously. We use technical, administrative and physical safeguards designed to help protect Members’ information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, destruction or theft. OnStar doesn’t share personally identifiable information with an insurance company without your express consent.
I have access to all of my credit reports and have seen no notation anywhere regarding this nor have I been informed by my insurance company of them requiring, asking for or sharing this information nor have I given "express consent". I think this is misinformation provided by whoever shared this info to get people riled up over a "big brother conspiracy type theory".

If I'm stopped for going over the speed limit by law enforcement, I'll accept the consequences. Do I really need the company who manufactured my car to let me know how many times I've gone over 80 MPH? (See post #10 by bhvrdr above). They haven't weaponized the information so far but how long do you think it's going to take for some authority to be looking "over our shoulders" every time we drive our cars? We're pretty far down the road already.

It apparently was shared with LexisNexis which most consumers dont know to even look at. Youd be shocked whats on that report and insurance companies use them.
If you've never requested your own id highly recommend it

Every new car has a data recording black box- though inadmissible in court it is obtainable information. It is often published as "at the time of the accident vehicle was reported to be going x miles per hour by police" You're guilty by default

I don't have a C8 yet but I do own a 2022 GMC 3500HD. The driver activity from my truck was on my Lexis Nexis report. There were pages and pages of driving activity. From what I understand insurance companies can look at info from this report.

Wow! Big brother is watching us and we don't even know it.
I just got off the phone with OnStar and canceled my FREE Chevy access account on both my C8 and my Traverse. When they asked me why I wanted to cancel I told them I didn't want smart driver keeping record of my driving habits. The person I talked to said she understands my concerns and canceled everything on both vehicles. Apparently there have been many requests to cancel smart driver since she was very understanding of my concerns.
I find this all to be total BULL **** and there is absolutely nothing about smart driver that will benefit those who have it.
