Default Why does the Transparent Roof feel so cheap?

We finally got a C8 at work with the transparent roof. I had been considering it but didn't get it and have been kind of regretting it. I'm a tall driver so thought the openness would be better but living in FL without a factory cover for it I decided against the extra heat.

I just took that Corvette as my demo the other day and OMG it felt like the same quality as a $30 window well cover. Owners who have it do you like it? It flexes with just a light press from my finger. I just don't understand, why isn't there laminated glass or something higher quality? I know they want it light weight to remove but I was thrown off. It feels so low rent compared to the rest of the car.

What are the thoughts of those who purchased it? If it was your only top and daily would you always enjoy it or wish it had a sun shade and was higher quality material?

Had dual roof pkg on my coupe, actually preferred the transparent top and thought it was quite nice.

my guess is low weight is a big consideration, not just an incidental one. If you've ever tried removing and putting back on older gens of Corvette, you might guess why it is what it is. While that answer may not satisfy you, it's the only one I can think of.

As an option that would be nice! My current car has a sunroof with shade and close it a lot due to heat here and just glare and annoyance.

I loved the transparent top and had no issues with heat. I’m pretty sure a glass top would pose a number of issues including weight and fragility.

I see you had the sides wrapped, I didnt want to sound too bitchy in the original post but not being body colored also bothered me a lot for the price. On a silver, red, blue car it just looks unfinished.

Agree, think the should come with color matched rails but I understand why they don’t. With that being said it was an easy fix with big impact.

I ordered the dual tops option and like the transparent top so much I doubt I will ever use the painted top. After reading your comment regarding it flexing with just slight pressure finger I had to go out in the garage and try mine and there's no flex at all. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish here.

I’ve had the transparent roof on 5 cars I think. With a htc don’t have it. I’d love the general to make a transparent roof an option on a htc.

It just makes the car more open. Oddly with my non corvette cars which have sun roofs I close them in bright sun. Not an issue with the tint on the corvettes.

Id never have a coupe with the transparent roof. And I ordered both once, and won’t again as the solid roof sat under a bed for years.

No agenda here pal.. I drove the car for 3 days straight. If you are looking up on a bright day and press up with your finger there is distortion to the light from it being plexi glass. I showed it to 4 other people. Its not flopping in the wind but my current S60 has a sunroof with laminated glass, not plexi glass, there is for sure a very real difference.

If it came like this color match I would have pulled the trigger on it. Especially with the hoop matched in black as well on top.

Yeah but there is a big difference between a sunroof and a removable top. My SL also has a retractable glass hard top. I don’t think it would be good for a removable top.

I agree. I can rememeber the weight of the C5 solid and transparent roofs - way heavier than the newer roofs.

the color matched pillars with dark roof looks great. Hopefully that Z06 comes for you soon.

Gorgeous! Are the top sides painted or wrapped?

I think it’s a great feature and never noticed any flex. And it was cheaper to have it painted than wrapped in my case as it was a must. Roof lines looked less than finished otherwise

I agree that it would be great to have a transparent top option on the HTC. I had a 21 C8 coupe with the transparent top and loved it. Just a little too hard for my wife to put back on by herself if she was driving alone and needed/wanted it back on. As such, we ordered and received a 23 C8 HTC. Love it just because of ease of the HTC. If I ever bought a coupe again, I would definitely go for the transparent top. It is just beautiful to look through day or night.
