Default Question for the guys who've replaced their catalytic converters

How does it sound? I'm doing the Corsa extreme cat back soon but wasn't sure if I should change the cats while it's in there. Someone told me not to because basically it'll turn into a straight pipe which can be obnoxious. I did have a C5 with no cats, corsa and a darton sleeved 427 and loved it so I'm not afraid of it being loud. I'm just curious if it sounds bad considering it's a mid engine setup and there isn't much pipe to begin with.

Wouldn't do both at the same time.

Initially I did a Fabspeed X-Pipe along with their HJS 200 kevlar wrapped cell cats. Came out way too loud for me and kept the cats and put back on my NPP exhaust. The sound now with only the 200 cell cats is perfect, deep and raspy but not over the top loud.

Yeah that's what I'm hearing. I have the z51 performance exhaust and if you do cats with that it sounds nice. I'm afraid if I do cats with the corsa extremes its just going to be basically a straight pipe setup which is just obnoxious.

I have aFe headers and Corsa cats, and the cats definitely added more volume of the two components. It sounds really good, brought a sharper and more aggressive tone to the factory NPP muffler. I think it really depends if you want more volume or not? I do not think it will sound obnoxious.

Yeah if you keep the factory exhaust I'm sure the sound is nice. The Corsa extremes only have the AFM valves, it gets rid of the NPP ones and I was looking to do no cats and get these pipes from Depo racing.

From what I read you'll be dealing with a CEL if you choose to go that route, in fact there are only a couple aftermarket cats that guarantee no cels

That's good to know as well. I figured there was a catch to why these were cheaper, I've seen ones from Corsa etc. that are nearly 2k. Not looking to spend that much just for a bit more sound.

I just installed a paragon touring cat back. Very happy with the sound vs the npp. Louder, more tuned tone. I went with non valved because I’ll never have it set to quiet. Ever.

I may do the paragon cats when they are back in stock (guaranteed no cels) but on the fence about that.

I was looking at the Cora’s as well but preferred the tip option paragon gives and the build quality is superb.

Woe be unto the person who visits their dealer for a DCT problem with a no-cat engine... Deep pockets "may" be a requirement.

Yeah I've heard cats with the factory sport exhaust and it sounds nice. I went Corsa mostly for the big weight savings and I love the sound they make.

I'm looking into the same setup. I have Corsa Extreme and don't want to mess with headers but want it still louder. Good Luck!
