Plant tour restrictions
I was looking at the BG plant tour info and read "no cell phones, backpacks, or purse allowed" Has anyone experienced this? I know they absolutely do not want you taking pictures.
If my phone is in a zipped jacket pocket, are they going to search me before and after the tour?

Those were the rules in 2015 when we went.
It's a privilege to be able to see inside the plant so why not just do as they ask.

Is having your cell phone that important that you cannot be without for the length of the tour? Unless you are a doctor on call, I don't see the big deal of leaving it locked in your car in the parking lot. However, I seriously doubt that they are going to manually search you.

I wish the tour was available when I picked up my 2022 in March.
Just do what they ask and enjoy

It’s been that way since I last took the tour in the late 2000’s. No open toe shoes/sandles and definitely no cell phones and I think my cell phone back then was still a flip phone with a horrible camera.
I can think of 3 places I’ve been over the years that don’t allow phones…Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Dallas. Very cool to watch money being printed, but full metal detectors and searches in place to make sure no cell phone. Several rides at Universal Studios (Velocicoaster, Harry Potter, etc.) and yes they use metal detectors, and the Corvette factory tour…don’t remember metal detectors since it’s been at least 10 yrs ago, but I have no doubt they’ll have them now to screen for phones and other prohibited items.
It’s a fantastic tour and well worth being separated from my phone for a bit…though the middle schoolers I teach would most likely disagree…

Some people either don't think the rules apply to them or simply just ignore them. Just wait, there will be some fool who has their phone out during a plant tour, is asked to leave, and then tries to make a national headlines case about it. I toured Toyota and Volkswagen for work a few years ago. They have the same rules there too. It is a simple ask.

I work for Boeing and before you board the bus to bring you over to the factory they tell you no cell phones and provide you with a locker to put your cell phone and whaterever else you want into the locker. Makes perfect sense to me.

I worked in a truck manufacturing plant for years, and I understand where they are coming from. The union assembly workers don't want people constantly snapping their pictures, and If they were to drop a part, or have a problem with an assembly, it would be front page news.
We are going to be traveling cross country and will have our suitcase in the car with cameras, laptop, and MY PHONE !! I usually never leave anything of value in my car, so that just seems high risk to me.
I don't have any intention of taking any spy photos. But the rules are no phones, so we will have to find a way to deal with it.

You're making a mountain out of a mole hill. Just leave the phone in the car with your laptop and cameras. What, you weren't expecting to bring those in too were you? BGA Has corvettes all over the facility and I've never heard of a break in happening. Chill.

I have attended plant tours going back to the C5 days and if I recall correctly they have always had the no camera rule at the plant, which as technology advanced also means cell phones with their cameras. Not an unreasonable request IMO.

Many years ago I bought an expensive sports car and the next day my car was broken into at work, and the stereo stolen.
That left a lasting impression that it could happen anywhere.
