Into watches, or into Rolex/Tudor? Kinda joking, but you know there are about 2,000 watch brands in Switzerland alone?
Someone who says they’re “into watches” and only displays Rolex (respect) and its cousin, Tudor…reminds me of a cigar “aficionado” I met once. I asked, what do you like. He responded, “anything Cuban.”
Kinda in jest. I love Rolex and have a few in the stable, but there’s sooo much more out there!

Since the name change of the thread I have posted some of the other watches I own as well. You obviously didn't see my January post showing my new grail, Omega 50th anniversary Snoopy, or an earlier post last year showing my Breitling Navitimer - let alone my other two Omegas which I also posted a pic on this thread.

Watches vs cars
In my view the corvette performs better than the vast majority of vehicles on the road and it looks great. So I’ll pay for that. A Rolex will not keep time any better than a cheap Casio. And other than the word Rolex on the watch, it’s appearance is not very different from many other watches, that cost a fraction of a Rolex.
I received a high end (not Rolex) watch for my retirement 12 years ago. I’ve worn it a few hours in 12 years.

A Rolex will hold its value way better than a Corvette. Plus, it can be passed down for generations for a fraction of the cost. 1 year of maintenance on a Corvette is 10 years in maintenance on a Rolex.

Your comments are self defeating
If you like watches, more power to you.

Many don’t understand the rationale of a $100k car because it has four tires and a steering wheel, just like a Corolla.
No one buys a mechanical watch for accuracy and looks are subjective. That YOU can’t appreciate the difference between a Rolex and an Invicta is on you. No foul, just a lack of appreciation.
Have you ever looked at the back of an A. Lange & Sohne Double Split?
If you’ve ever visited a “high-end” watch manufacture in Switzerland or Germany, you might have a better appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into a quality timepiece.
And, BTW, that Double Split is worth more than most C8s and will only increase in value.
It’s all about what each of us choose to enjoy, but to reduce a Rolex to being about the name or general appearance is to simply expose your own lack of understanding.
I respect your perspective, I just believe it’s a little shortsighted.

I'm sorry, but for nearly all people, that's like a pig staring at a wristwatch.

I can understand a guy saying he loves his Corvette or 911 but how do you have that same kind of feeling and enthusiasm about a wristwatch?
Lets call a spade a spade here. Most people can recognize a Rolex and for many who wear them it is a "look at me I can afford a Rolex".

You are absolutely correct about other watch brands being out there - which I do own. However, you may not realize that this thread has been around since 2022 and was originally titled "Your Corvette and Your Rolex". In March of last year the OP had the mods change the title of the thread to be more inclusive. The post you are quoting was before the name change, and why I only posted my Rolex's and Tudors at that time.

For me, its not at all about the outward recognition of the cost. In fact I very seldom wear my Rolex watches because of the recognition and because the majority of the Rolex you see folks wearing are fake. No, I appreciate my watch collection for the same reasons I appreciate the 5.5 flat plane in my Z06.. The extreme mechanical complexity and attention to detail it takes to create. Also like cars, the further up the scale you go, generally they better they hold or increase value making them far less costly to own.
